My name is Maarten. Originally born in The Netherlands, I recently became a U.S. citizen and therefore elligible to vote. I am currently not registered with any party, my wife is a registered democrat.

In 2004 I helped with local events for the John Kerry campaign and I have been interested in politics for quite some time. Obviously, I am no fan of Bush, but I am still voting for a Republican for governor this November, and also 2 Democrats for senate.

I am a person that believes that one party is not always right and the other party always wrong. I hate Bush, but I do not believe that all Republicans are bad nor do I believe that all issues the Republican party has on their agenda are bad. Likewise with the Democrats and other parties.

There are those of us that will stick with a party because they always have stuck with them and even though the playing field changes every 10 years or so they will continue to stick with that party. Its not necesarily a bad thing, but its not for me. In my own family there are some (older) people that have voted for the Republican party for 30 years, and even though they don't like Bush at all they voted for him anyways because they can't imagine to vote for a Democrat. (And that happens the other way around too, of course.)

I vote by the issues and the candidate, not by party. So far I am voting for a Republican governor (Schwarzenegger, California), a Republican Mayor, and Two Democrat Senators. Given my current loathing for the current administration its very likely I will vote for a Democrat in 2008. However, if John McCain is running I may change my mind.

Well, Thats it in a nutshell. ;)

Welcome. Where in CA are you? I'm in San Diego county. BTW, have you thought about Art Olivier (Liberterian) (http://www.2006gov.com/)? He's fiscially conservative and socially liberal where Der Groppenfurer is not. Also see http://www.ca.lp.org/voteguide_nov06.shtml for the complete California ticket for this November.

It's good to have you!
