When I first saw these forums, a strong effort had been made to make them international. Now this site is clearly a US patriotic site with so many American flags flying, is doesn't look inviting to non Americans.
Democracy began in Athens, and the philosophers who contributed the most to increasing awareness of democracy are French or English.
Discussions about democracy don't seem to go very well in the Democracy Forums, and the site is no longer inviting to an international audience. I hope this changes.

Relax Athena. There have always been US flags all over the place here. Just accept it as an occupational hazard and just enjoy the debate. :)

No, Jafar, you are wrong. Look at the forum. There are flags in front of every topic and every forum.
That is what Athena is bitching about.
Apparently some people want to force their ways on us, and instead of going to the International section, this poster gets offended at the basic format of the forums.
You don't like the flags, Athena? Then go to the administrators and fuss at them.
Most of us are US citizens. If you are so intent on a forum being international, go find one.
I just Googled "International Political Forums." There are many there. Either go to the admin or try that.
Geez.

Oh Pookie. This forum is more international than you realise. How many political forums out there have a Muslim as a Mod who also has an avatar that may be offensive to Americans? :D

And by looking at it at the first listing of the forums, there is a flag by every single one. Oh Jafar, have you ever thought that that might be enough for people?
They'll have to explore and read and click on topics to find you and your avatar.
You're not exactly one who stands out when one is presented with the forum menu.
I could say the same about cat people, ok?
C'mon, you know better than this, Jafar. Knock it off.

THIS is what Athena is talking about:

Now do you see all the flags? It's kinda obvious.

Oh yeah, I see it now Pookie. I always go to "today's posts" first and browse that list. Less flags there ;)

Any given forum will take on the personality of the majority of its members. It doesn't matter what it was SUPPOSED to be at the start.

If this person doesn't like the forum then leave. I think we have enough people to sustain the forum without one incompetent poster.

What's the harm in a poster wanting something changed? Sometimes we can, or sometimes we can't, but it never hurts to ask.

Asking is one thing, El, but I felt this person was complaining about it. I like the flags, myself. But, I'm a little biased because I love our country and the flag is special to me.

LOL, Ttriber, who'd a thunk it?
I think it looks pretty sharp, too. I wonder if they can make it snow like they did last year with the old format? I thought that was cool.

Then why aren't there any images of peacocks and ostrichs?

Any chance we can get rid of the blinding purity of WHITE everywhere! I like a little color contrast. It's easier to look at than Bleach-white.

I like the flags.
Gives the site much more character than most other political forums on the net.
