What guns do you own, and what would you like to own?

What do you think would be the best all-round weapon for the common soldier on the modern battlefield?

I own lots of guns from a lowly plasma pistol to a chaingun.

The BFG9000 of course!

I meant in regard to ones that really exist, rather than ones you find on Doom :P

anyways, I did see a thing on youtube a while ago about the top 10 rifles throughout history.

The M16 was given second place, and the AK-47 first place.

Personally I don't own any guns (due to draconian anti-gun legislation in Australia) although I'd like to. I've fired a steyr aug previously on a military introduction range shoot so far but that's all.

I like bubble guns myself. Though sometimes I need to bring out my potato gun when things get really nasty.

Don't own any weapons but I've always thought AR-15s and M4 Carbines were cool.

I have a Benjamin air pistol that I once killed a squirrel with. And I only meant to annoy him because he was stealing bird seed. At one time, I was a pretty good shot with a similar air pistol--I used to shoot sparrows for my pet owl when I was a kid on the ranch. The .50 BMG rifle kept vaporizing them.

Just having a little fun. I've never owned one, never known anyone who did, and not lived in a country where 1) it was legal for normal citizens to do so, and 2) Where people felt the need to own one in the first place.

The M16 is light and accurate. I was amazed at the grouping I was able to get on the range with it.

The SLR(L1A1) is the rifle I got best acquainted with followed by the M60 machine gun while in the Australian Army.

The Steyr came in just as I was leaving the Army. I got to fire it during testing. I had to dig it out of a mud hole in a swamp where it had been buried overnight. Amazingly, after I shook the excess off, it worked just fine.

Then of course I was told "Well done Corporal, now clean it." Naturally, I got it clean by asking a bunch of privates, "Who wants to do a diving course?", and the first volunteer got to clean it for me :D

I own the following:

Savage model 98 rifle chambered for .308 Winchester with a 4X scope.
Mossberg 500, 12 gauge shotgun with a riot length 18 inch barrel.
Smith and Wesson model 6906 9mm semi auto pistol.

I have had the above for some time now.

RG .22 single action pistol

I bought this as a train wreck gun that I have restored.
The next 4 guns I have aquired recently for shooting cowboy action competitions.

Two Colt single action army models chambered for .45 long colt.
Model 1873 winchester lever action rifle chambered for .45 long colt
Stoeger side by side double barrel 12 guage coach gun with 20 inch barrels.

I like the M16 as a great all around rifle.

I plan to build my own model 1911, .45 auto and AR 15 carbine. When I do, I wll be selling the Savage and the S&W pistol listed above.

I have a Taurus 9mm and a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun. People who have used my Taurus hate it, though. They say it's too heavy. I love it; the kick is minimal.

Only thing I have just now is a 12 ga. S&W five-shot pump. Short barrel with three inch magnum shells; 00 buckshot load makes it suitable for home defense.

My daughter's boyfriend (I think) stole my .38 revolver last month from my clothes closet.

I need a handgun. Maybe a .40 caliber semiauto.

I would like to have a semiauto deer rifle. Probably .308 Winchester. Easy to reload.

I didn't know there were deer in Hawaii.

I used to have a 30-0-6. Loved it! Sold it to a fellow cop who was a hunter. Man, the venison stew was great for the next few years, then he retired and moved to Arizona. Rats.
I also have a Chinese SKS, which is loaned to a friend. She has been my best friend since high school, and we joke about the SKS as being communal property. See, she is gay, and I always told her if I was gay, she'd be in trouble.
She always takes that as the compliment it is meant to be. I love her to pieces.

My God. I knew that imported species had wreaked havoc to the ecosystem in HI, but I didn't know they'd done it as recently as 1959. I took a chopper trip over the canyon in Kauai, where I saw the depredations of the feral goats, and I knew that native bird species are almost gone.

For what it's worth, there's a strong movement in Texas to minimize the spread of non-native plants and animals. In the dog park where my dog takes me, volunteers spent months last year clearing out the ligustrum plants that escaped from home landscapes.

Sorry to go OT.

That's what the government wants you to think.

I'm currently building--as funds permit--a sniper rifle. I started with a Remington 700 action, chambered in .300 WINMAG. It has a Hart match grade barrel, with a full 1" ID from the action to the muzzle. I've bought a McMillan A-3 stock. I've yet to decide on the optics; of course, the scope that I really want costs $2,500. I don't think that's going to fit within the budget, unfortunately, but, I never say never.

I have:

Maadi AK-47 chambered in 7.62X39 (all around defensive rifle for home, state, nation)
SKS chambered in 7.62X39 (combination defensive rifle, as well as hunting if necessary)
Glenfield Model 60 chambered in .22 Long Rifle (plinking, varmints, pest control)

Star PD chambered in .45 ACP. 6+1 (home defense and carry pistol)
Star Model 31PK in 9mm 15+1 (home defense and carry pistol)
H&R "Forty-Niner" Model 949 8-shot .22 LR Revolver (plinking, home-defense, pest control)

All of the above work exceptionally well for the uses I have them intended for, and my Maadi is by far the best gun of the bunch for reliability and overall longevity.

As far as what I would "pick" if firearm cost and ammo cost were not a factor.....

My ideal all around choices would be what I have (I don't get rid of firearms) PLUS:

H&K 91 series battle rifle chambered for 7.62X51 (defense/hunting)
H&K MP5 chambered in 9mm (close quarters defense)
Browning Hi-Power pistol chambered in 9mm (carry and home defense)
Ruger 10-22 (plinking, varmints, pest control)
