I know everyone wants to avoid long, nested quotes, but I'm in a situation where I need to go two steps back if my reply is gonna make any sense. Can one of the mods or someone help me get around this business of being able to enter a respons ONLY to the immediate prior post?

well you just surround stuff with quote blocks.. the quote blocks nest like parenthases in math..

You can just "quote" my response to see the code i typed, which will of course be nested inside a third layer of quote blocks..
So I guess my solution is the manual construction of the extra layer of quotes and some cut n paste from the post.

You have to work with the forum code, buck.

There are some shortcuts, though.

Well, I think I tried what T&P suggested, and I have an ungodly long post with no clear delineation between what I write and what I'm responding to.

PH, I use code all the time in using type faces, including links, etc. but I don't see the codes for nesting messages. I don't think formatting the God damned thing should take longer than writing the message.

Dammit, I'm being persecuted by the f....g software! :fight:

Do you have it set to the standard editor, not the basic editor? If you do it's really the same system that we've had for the past 2 years.

If you are responding to multiple posts you can click the MultiQuote button of each post you wish to quote and then click the Quote button and all the posts you set the MultiQuote flag on will be quoted in your editor. The MultiQuote button is the one right beside the Quote button and has the 2 slash marks on top of it.

Will that be of any use for your current need Buck?

Maybe I'm just stupid, but I've never been able to figure that one out. The other forums I participate in all allow nested quotes. I generally avoid trying to use them because it makes things too long. It becomes necessary though, when you need to quote a couple of statements back in order to make a rational response.

I know the admins want to minimize excessively complex posts, but I'd like it better if it were easier to get multiple layers of quotes in. I have a suspicion that enabling more levels is an option that admins have. If not, then I guess I have to consider Vbulletin as buggy as Mybb. And I had such high hopes...

If you want to break up one post and reply in parts:

Quote the post. Then highlight and copy the
(without the space) and the put a
at the end of the part you want to reply to. (always without the space).

Then when you're done replying, paste their
in front of the next part they said and repeat the above till you're done.

If you are reading a thread and want to reply to lots of people at once, click the button on the lower right of the post that says : " on. It will change to : " off.
And then when you hit post reply at the end, all the posts you clicked will be quoted.

speaking of quotes... some of the other members definitely need to start using them when responding to posts..
