Support Chinese people! Speak the thruth, slain the CNN beast!

2008-04-12

LOS ANGELES, April 11 (Xinhua) -- American Chinese have launched an online campain, demanding an apology from the Cable News Network (CNN) and its Situation Room program for insulting Chinese.
"We are truly stunned and shocked by a recent racist and hatred remark on the Chinese people by your news commentator Jack Cafferty, " said a petition which has won 7,614 signatures since it was posted online on Friday.

In Situation Room aired on April 9th, Cafferty charged the Chinese people with a highly despicable assault by saying, "They (Chinese) are basically the same bunch goons and thugs they have been in the past fifty years," according to the petition.

"It's not common to witness such a blatant discrimination against an ethnic group of people with such a derogatory connotation in a national TV program," said the petition, "We believe his remark clearly exposed his hatred and bigotry against Chinese people as a whole. Without doubt, many people feel hurt, especially, the Chinese people, by this shameless assault."
Cafferty's hatred speech has been recorded and uploaded to Youtube. So far the click rate is approaching 10,000, according to the petition. People from around the world have left comments condemning his vile remark.

The petition demand for an apology from the CNN and Situation Room was created by the Legal Immigrant Association (LIA) and written by Legal Immigrant Association (petition@legalimmigrant.org). This petition is hosted here at www.PetitionOnline.com as a public service.

"As a leading organization of legal immigrants mainly comprised of people from China, we strongly condemn Jack Cafferty's racist remarks and urge the CNN to take immediate action against him," said the petition, "We also demand an official apology from the CNN to all Chinese people. We would reserve our right to take further actions on this matter."

No, I watched the show.

Yes it is, until their viewers stop watching them. Freedom of speech means freedom of speech. You don't have a RIGHT to not be offended.

December said:
Is that what you are saying?

I think I just clarified that, didn't I?

Jack Cafferty is one man, who does "op-ed" pieces.

Opinion is the "op" part of "op-ed".

Opinion is "SUBJECTIVE", and we all have one, and few are the same.

Are you saying we should ALL have the same opinion, or that the "media" should only cover ONE opinion?

Cafferty was exactly right, and he was referring to CHINA, not ALL CHINESE PEOPLE.

No, I watched the show.

So you watched the show and you claim that the CNN commentator Jack Cafferty did not spoke about all Chinese people.

Well, you are lying, Osborn F. Enready.

He did speak about Chinese people.

Quote: "They (Chinese) are basically the same bunch goons and thugs they have been in the past fifty years".

And here's video to prove it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2j2bvOq3fLA

And you can even hear Wolf Blitzer actually laughing after hearing these insults.....

Other than your obvious appeal to emotion, do you have anything of substance to offer December?

Your quote:
"They (Chinese) are basically the same bunch goons and thugs they have been in the past fifty years".

Are you saying the Chinese government is significantly different now, than it was 50 years ago December? Please, share with us how so, regarding communism and capitalism, which is what CAFFERTY WAS REFERRING TO.

You are mis-quoting Cafferty to make a rather lame appeal to emotion, and playing a type of race card.

I don't know what the commentator said or didn't say about the Chinese people, or the Nation of China, but he has every right to say whatever he damn well pleases so long as his censors(read bosses) approve of his broadcast. It doesn't matter whether his bosses agree or disagree with his statements, so long as they issue a disclaimer if they disagree. The commentator has his right to form his opinion, to express that opinion and be responsibile for that opinion.

Any listener or viewer has the equal right to disagree and change the program if they so feel it makes the difference for them.

China has every right to protest what they see as disinformation regarding China, and they should demand equal time to present their answer to anything put forth in a op ed opinion broadcast by CNN. It is up to CNN to make and offer the time.

FM: China strongly denounces CNN host's insulting words

http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2008-04/15/xin_372040515211471823831.jpg

BEIJING, April 15 (Xinhua) -- China is shocked by and strongly condemns CNN host Jack Cafferty's remarks, which maliciously attacked the Chinese people, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said at a regular press briefing on Tuesday.

Cafferty said in a TV show on April 9 that the Chinese products are "junk" and the Chinese people "basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years".

"Cafferty used the microphone in his hands to slander China and the Chinese people, seriously violated professional ethics of journalism and human conscience", said Jiang. What he did "reflected his arrogance, ignorance and hostility towards the Chinese people, ignited indignation of Chinese home and abroad, and will be condemned by those who safeguard justice around the world", said Jiang.

"We strongly demand CNN and Cafferty himself take back the vileremarks and apologize to all Chinese people," Jiang said.

SHOCKING... China was offended by free speech.....

Is this supposed to come as some suprise December?

It was SLANDER and not free speech. And CNN could be sued BIG TIME for slander.

Slander

A type of defamation. Slander is an untruthful oral (spoken) statement about a person that harms the person's reputation or standing in the community. Because slander is a tort (a civil wrong), the injured person can bring a lawsuit against the person who made the false statement. If the statement is made via broadcast media -- for example, over the radio or on TV -- it is considered libel, rather than slander, because the statement has the potential to reach a very wide audience.

Tell me, Osborn F. Enready, why do you make illogical statements and then ignore my asnwers in which I proved you wrong?

How did you "prove me wrong"?

You posted a statement made by Jack Cafferty, that according to many in this country and abroad accept.....

A bulk of Chinese goods are defective, cheaply made, and made using near slave labor conditions in many cases. They live under a repressive system of government, and seem to be being held under the thumb of their government.

Jack Cafferty pretty much summed up a lot of peoples thoughts, some American, some not.

Jack Cafferty has a right to speak his opinion on his portion of the show, that is what he was hired to do. The company RESERVES the right to suspend or fire him if they so choose, but to "ASSUME" CNN endorses every word that comes out of every employees mouth is not only illogical, but simply unreal, unfactual, and has never been the case.

To call it slander is LAUGHABLE. ;)

The fact is, however, CNN's man Jack Cafferty did speak about Chinese people.

We are not discussing what Mr. Jack Cafferty said about Chinese goods.

I wonder what reaction in AMERICAN media would be he said it about the Jews....

[b]It was SLANDER and not free speech. And CNN could be sued BIG TIME for slander.

The plaintiff wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

It was free speech and protected under the first amendment.

Unless of course the case was tried by the ChiComs. In which case the defendant would be summarily executed.

Are you really serious December?

Often times, I think you're just a under-paid Chinese sweat shop worker whose main line of work involves going out to message boards and making sure China is protrayed in a good light.

CNN has free speech, along with everyone else in America- Chinese people and China can get as constipated as they want, but they can not do any thing.

Who cares if it was directed at every Chinese person, or just the government in China (which it was)? It was a opinion, he didn't try to pass it off as anything but his personal opinion; backed up by facts, yes- backed up by facts that if printed out, would likely take more paper then CNN had at the moment, yes.

I don't understand why Chinese people have some sort of weird, mutant, patriotism for their own country over here- they must have no clue how bad it is over there. Then again, I know a lot of Chinese, and they couldn't care less about China, they careabout being successful- living the American Dream en whatnot. Personally, I believe those 'American Chinese' are just being paid by the Communist Party to make a big who-haw over nothing.

In short: balls!

How about they apologize for insulting average Americans for them agreeing with Obama's elitist, anti-constitution, and anti religious statements, as well as insulting all of our intelligence on a daily basis first...then they can go back to falling all over themselves to kowtow to commies.

What did they expect from a country that allows free speech?

And here's where Hillary Clinton and Alibaba meet. Did you know that a Chinese internet service permitted the Chinese government to spy on Chinese citizens and to interrogate them digitally? They didn't just look at public stuff, but used their ID's in such a way as to gain access to their phone records, snail mail, credit purchases, and cellphone activity?
They are major contributors to the Clinton Library. It's been on the news. Look it up.

China urges again that CNN sincerely apologizes over insulting words

BEIJING, April 17 (Xinhua) -- China on Thursday urged the U.S. news network CNN to take back one of its commentator's insulting remarks about the Chinese, and to sincerely apologize. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said at a press briefing that "The statement issued by CNN on Tuesday not only failed to sincerely apologize for commentator Jack Cafferty's remarks, but also spearheaded its attack on the Chinese government, attempting to incite the Chinese people against the government," Jiang said. She added China could never accept that, referring to CNN's statement.
Jiang said Cafferty's remarks not only insulted the Chinese people, but also defied the conscience and justice of humankind.
The Chinese people cannot be bullied and humiliated, she said. "We once again solemnly urge CNN to seriously deal with the matter, take back the vile remarks and make a sincere apology to all Chinese people", she said.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry lodged a solemn representation Wednesday with the CNN Beijing office, condemning the network as being "without any professional reputation".
