America is the home of the flag flying patriot which is great until for flying that flag so often and proudly the patriot becomes blind to everything but its stars and stripes.

John McCain could teach a class on blinding people with stars and strips. He has learned to use this great symbol of freedom (his military service ) as a cloak for his lack of political integrity and policy principle.

Sure it's easy to deflect and point the finger at another candidate's short comings (they all have 'em) but McCains flourishing list of flip flops in juxtaposition to his "straight talk" slogan should be cause for even the proudest of flag flying patriots to look past the flag long enough to see the man hiding behind it.

McCains Flourishing list of Flip Flops ( sorry that the list is so long )

The old McCain didn’t want an amendment and didn’t want Roe overturned. The new McCain completely disagrees with the old McCain.

Or, far more likely, McCain is once again abandoning any pretense of consistency and integrity, and is now willing to say literally anything to win.

* McCain criticized TV preacher Jerry Falwell as “an agent of intolerance” in 2002, but has since decided to cozy up to the man who said Americans “deserved” the 9/11 attacks. (Indeed, McCain has now hired Falwell’s debate coach.)

* McCain used to oppose Bush’s tax cuts for the very wealthy, but he reversed course in February.

* In 2000, McCain accused Texas businessmen Sam and Charles Wyly of being corrupt, spending “dirty money” to help finance Bush’s presidential campaign. McCain not only filed a complaint against the Wylys for allegedly violating campaign finance law, he also lashed out at them publicly. In April, McCain reached out to the Wylys for support.

* McCain supported a major campaign-finance reform measure that bore his name. In June, he abandoned his own legislation.

* McCain used to think that Grover Norquist was a crook and a corrupt shill for dictators. Then McCain got serious about running for president and began to reconcile with Norquist.

* McCain took a firm line in opposition to torture, and then caved to White House demands.

* McCain gave up on his signature policy issue, campaign-finance reform, and won’t back the same provision he sponsored just a couple of years ago.

* McCain was against presidential candidates campaigning at Bob Jones University before he was for it.

* McCain was anti-ethanol. Now he’s pro-ethanol.

* McCain was both for and against state promotion of the Confederate flag.

* And now he’s both for and against overturning Roe v. Wade.

* And then there's the illegal Immigration flip flop.

McCain is a man with no principle beliefs, his constantly evolving opinions on nearly everything, demonstrate a serious lack of political integrity.

The torture flip flop is the most shocking. Having been tortured himself.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but didn't you post just a few days ago that you had decided to vote for Senator McCain based upon a remark made by Senator Obama? Have you now changed your mind? And if so, isn't that a flip-flop as well?

Sublimating,

Are you running for president? If you are, I missed the announcement.

ECW

...and John McCain is still a flip-flopper.

(laughs) Yes, yes, and yes. It's a good thing I'm not running for president and riding around in the straight talk express.

When I took a good look at McCains lack of integrity I decided that it'd be better to vote for someone who has some positions I disagree with than to vote for someone who's positions I don't really know because they change to reflect the polls.

To be fair, I don't think McCain's positions don't really seem to be changing to reflect the polls. I think its more accurate to say that McCain is trying to hold two positions simultaneously. A good example of this is the immigration debate - McCain has given speeches to one audience where he boasts his progressive record of favoring immigration reform, and immediately afterwards given a speech to a different audience where he vows to take a hard-line stance on the issue. He's simply saying whatever the audience in front of him wants to hear.

Ahhhhhhh....well, okay then! -lol- That wraps things up nicely!

McCain's flip flopping isn't due to the polls. If it were, he'd be flopping the wrong way! 80% of Americans don't like the way things are going, and McCain wants to keep things going the same way. His flip flopping is to pander to the base of neocons. Which is only 20% of the country. He can't win.

Violalee I wish it were that simple. The problem is that McCain is not running, his service record is. It's the only thing people seem to see when they look at this guy. Also, his running mate is fear its self. By the time the right is done scaring the sense out of American voters they'll be voting for McCain in droves.

You hear that? "flip flop, flip flop"

Its not even McCain's service record that's running: its the media running on McCain's behalf. McCain can't seem to state a position that remains the same for more than 3 consecutive days and keeps getting 'confused' about who we're actually fighting in Iraq, yet the media's biggest concern seems to be whether Obama's poor bowling score means he can't connect to middle America.
