Want to help free Tibet by cooling the heels of China's American consumer-funded military? Want less mayhem in the Middle East? Less Far East sweatshops grinding out brand name diversions? Smaller budgets earmarked for police state domestic repression? How about a healthier natural environment? Participate in Buy Nothing May.

It's simple. For the 31 days of May, limit yourself to 2 grocery and 2 fuel stops. Make no other purchases. Tell the rowdy kids running Washington and Wall Street the party is over. Your money is the only vote they always count.

That won't be all that difficult....

Ya gotta have it ta spend it.....

Besides...with $100.00 fill ups and $450.00 grocery trips....

yep.. thats not to far off from me already..
but I sport a very big garden.. I can - freeze - dehydrate - pickle you name it..
I also stay home alot... I only drive when I absolutely have to and when im in the city.. I prefer walking...

My truck is a 100$ fillup so I make sure it lasts for atleast 2 weeks it seems like.
And when I go to the grocery.. its almost always with a list for essentials only.
( except for that damn candy isle )

If I follow this,
The month of May really wouldn't be any different then all the other months.

Aside from not buying anything for a full month is damn near impossible, if it's done blindly it will hurt Americans far more than China.

Even refusing specifically to buy goods from China isn't easy either. I just bought a Behringer audio mixer, which I assumed was a German product. Of course, when it arrived it was made in China.

If you REALLY want to send the "rowdy kids" in Washington a message, vote them OUT next election. And keep on voting them out until the point is made.

I recently bought a barbecue grill at a major chain store. On the box in inch high letters were the words..."Made In the USA!" Upon assembly, I noted virtually every part had a little gold sticker on it saying "Made In China." I think the BOX must have been what was made in the USA.

I celebrated the "turn out all lights Sat" by stringing all my Christmas lights out again!
I'm sure Gore has dispatched his legions to scold me into shame by rubbing one finger over the other.
That's going to hurt.

I hope their black helicopters at least run on my groceries, and their rappel lines are made from hemp!
Hup, hup, hup....

If I did that I'd have no fruits and vegetables and I'd also be unable to get to work during after the 15th or 18th day.

Zo, burn your corn like we do in the Midwest....all you would have to do is go without cereal, or chicken or milk or beef or...oh, never mind.

A better way to give Washington a wake up call is to have all registered DEMS&REPS
re-register as a third party !!! (The Constitutional Party would be the best party to
join to make a statement on what's good for the US).

Once Americas Abandon the REP&DEMS parties (for counter productive performance)
things will get better for the American people/ taxpayer.

And you can always register back to your favorite "corrupt party" for the next elections.

Then all the rep and dem candidates would re-register third party too (Leiberman anyone)and we'd be back to square one.

Not at all !!!

First only people who are outside of their parties could pull off a 3rd party run, and
they would have to have better stances on the issues. Are you trying to say
all DEMS would got to (say ) the Green party and all REPS would got to (say) the
Libertarian party? That could not and would not happen over night (or in one
elections time)!!!.
But Both parties would Definitely be 10000000000 % more response to the wishes
and needs of the US Voters !

Also if more parties would compete, America could loose it's Red / Blue polarization/blindness
that is keeping us (you REPS&DEMS) fighting amongst ourselves !

Here's something I found online:
"Prison wardens use population control to keep the guards and staff safe. That is, controlling the percentage of opposing gang members within the blocks assures that the gangs will fight amongst each other and are less likely to riot against the prison employees.
The global elite use the "two party system" for the same reason. With the same results.

I've been boycotting everything made by the ChiComs for about a two years. It is possible.

The catch 22 here is that they(china) make the cheapest stuff. How can we boycott them and still save money? Also, what would happen if we did do that?
My bet is that we would soon hear about another stimulus package.

Take a look at what you buy. Is it something you really need? Or can you get it second hand? Or make it yourself?

We do exactly that, DY. Very good point. EXCELLENT! We grow a LOT of our food. We are very, very careful about what we buy. And, we only buy what we really need.
The truth is, we can't afford to be stupid about our income. We have a future to save for, too, so very many things are taken into account before we buy anything. Make sense?

I've found that I can do without most everything being marketed today.

Distinguishing between "wants" and "needs" is essential, especially with marketing working full time trying to convince us that "wants" are really "needs"....

Great, that's the way we do it as well. Then you know a little time and effort and hard work pays off (Like conservatism, okay had to throw that in)

In today's world with raising fuel and food costs, it pays to grow your own, or wear those jeans just a little longer, or what have you.

Being a conservationist I have learned to stretch things out. Not only my money but natural resources as well.

What got me going was, first I don't like the ChiComs anyway, but I went down to buy some planter boxes to plant flowers for the deck. The planters were made by ChiComs. They were so damn flimsy. So I left the store disgruntled and on my way home I past a house under construction. I stopped, asked if I could take some scrap lumber, then went home and made my own which are sturdier and prettier. And free. And made of recycled lumber that was going to be burned on site.

Ever since, I have avoided everything ChiCom made. Next I'm homemaking a BBQ:thumbsup:

So it can work.

Cool! A BBQ? Hubby is doing one from used bricks from a house that was torn down. Wooo, this is going to be fun!
At our age, we have to save like mad. I cannot and will not expect the government to take care of me. I pay my own way.

Pookie

I yi yi more hairbrained schemes that would probably only serve to increase unemployment. I do like the spirit of "make your own" rather than mindlessly trotting off to a store and buying what you can create for yourself.

Me, I will hang up my chopsticks and not eat Chinese food for the month of May...LOL

A similarly brilliant level of non-sequitur protest, I love it. Did you know most 'chinese' restaurants are run by vietnamese people?

You do recognize sarcasim when you read it, eh? I often cook my own Chinese food and patronize a Chinese market owned by Chinese Americans. And when I do eat Chinese food out in the restaurants locally, they are owned by Chinese Americans whom I know personally.

When I visit NYC, I go to Chinatown and patronize shops owned by Chinese Americans and eat in Chinese style restaurants where the cooks are on the line out front for all to see. Now I don't know who owns those restaurants, but I sure know Chinese fellows when I talk and visit with them as they cook my order. I also have many Vietnamese friends here in town as they settled here in the mid seventies and our children all went to school together. I like Vietnamese food, just as much as I like Chinese style cooking, but the Vietnamese incorporate more spice, heat and coconut milk than ordinarily do the Chinese.

Anyway, I think I will postpone my trip to the Great Wall for the time being.

I wish I had the time to go see my friends in china. Probably not a safe time right now, but you really need atleast three weeks to get over there and see much anyway, I hear.

No I think it is generally safe to visit there because they Chinese authorities will only allow tourists to go where they consider it safe. When a Chinese citizen gets out of line in China they could disappear into one of the horrible prisons there. Get executed in China. and they simply shoot you in the back of the skull, and send your family the invoice for the bullet.
