I wouldn't be too hard on people with poor geography skills. I'm sure many make up for it with their knowledge of politics and world affairs.
And their studies of Paris and Britney too.

That's okay. There's always a place for them in the leadership echelons of the Republican Party, making life-and-death decisions.

Yup, they could even grow up to be republican presidents. :lmao:

I am not quite sure I understand your question, Bishop. Are you asking for the source of information that was stated by the man in that video?
Or are you asking for the URL of that youtube video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj3iNxZ8Dww

I'm sure most of that 20% could point out their country if you replaced "United States" with "Jesusland".

I didn't know that, AlonzoMourning23.
But you probably right....

your thread states that "many" americans can't find their country on a map, yet the only source you provide is that of some redneck twit at a beauty pageant. i don't particularly disagree with the assertion (i.e. americans are stupid), i just take issue with the lack of a real source.. here's one:
http://www.nationalgeographic.com/roper2006/pdf/FINALReport2006GeogLitsurvey.pdf
of course, these americans represent those competing with illegal immigrants for janitor, bus driver, garbage men, and other "necessary to have a dumb and/or unambitious workforce" kinds of jobs. someone who can spot their own country on a map is much less likely to take a job to mop/sweep the floor at the local subway station.

Unless that's the only job they CAN get. When you see college graduates in fast food positions or selling cell phones in a kiosk at the mall, you tend to think what KIND of job someone does no longer reveals what level of education and/or experience one has.
The slightly-above-minimum-wage cell phone salesman I mentioned used to be my boss at a bank I worked for.

i tend to believe that there are often other reasons why qualified and/or educated people fail to get jobs - specifically with regard to people who live in areas where there are plenty of available jobs... for example, we have a family friend who has 2 masters degrees, speaks at least 4 languages, used to teach at a local college... this guy has been out of work for almost 2 years now, and it has perplexed us to no end why he hasn't been able to find work. he recently found himself a job - a shit spot working at some video rental store. something simply doesn't add up when someone with such skills and experience can't do better than ringing in the register.. same would hold for your former boss imo.
but this is a little tangential to the topic.. with the poor quality of education in this country, of which teachers and parents are to blame imo, is going to ensure that we have a solid base of people qualified to do little more than pump our gas and mop our floors. i'd wager that the majority of those who can't even spot their own country on a map definitely aren't going to go to college, and probably run the risk of not even graduating high school.. these people are society's risk as a whole, especially when there will be politicians out there portraying them as victims that need to be coddled by the nanny state.

A lot of professions have a lot more qualified people looking for jobs than there are jobs available. That's why it often takes 6 months to a year for college graduates to find work in their field, and sometimes longer.
Pharmacist, nurse etc. they normally get jobs right away. Psychologists, the more academic majors (english, history etc.), computer technology etc. often struggle.

Teachers Unions have a lot of responsibility for that.

Poo! I'm at work and YouTube is blocked. But that doesn't surprise me. Geez, the reading skills of many high school graduates stink. No wonder they can't find the USA.

"There is constant activity going on in one small portion of the brain; all the rest is stagnant. The money-making faculty is alone cultivated. They are incapable of acquiring general knowledge on a broad or liberal scale. All is confined to trade, finance, law and small, local provincial information. Art, science, literature, are all dead letters to them."
-- T. C. Grattan (1792-1864)
Not entirely true, of course (LOL). I think the post-Wilson/Roosevelt era of the 20th century say the US emerge from this somewhat. Now it seems to be sinking back into that condition.

Well, maybe those college kids went to a liberal arts school, could likely explian why they're working selling fast food.

While shopping in a large "home improvement store" yesterday, I watched a young man approach a worker and ask about buying "gas pipe." He said he was a "Theater Major" at a local college, and needed some for a project, and was sent by his "professor." He looked to be about 20 years old. Without going into details, I found myself watching the kid try to explain what he wanted, and thought to myself..."Here's a young guy who's spending 4 years in college...likely amassing a big student loan debt...and when he graduates, he won't even be able t get a job here at Lowes....much less in the field he's majoring in. But one thing for sure...he will be a liberal all of his life, and he won't understand why anything happens....but as with so many liberals, he'll be angry because he can't make it in a capitalist society....And, he'll never have a clue why."

I like to think that some of the angry, bitter, blame America first liberals, change. But like so many young kids going into college they are brainwashed by the liberal left professors. Not knowing much about life, they suck it down hook line and sinker.

George W. Bush was never a Democrat, Brien. We're the "elitists," remember - the ones who read books, and make decisions based on reality.
