I went to Yahoo.com, and discovered this article:

Six Reasons You Shouldn't Count on Rebate Check Before It's Cut
Most Americans will soon receive rebate checks from the IRS worth anywhere between $300 to $1,200 or more, and many businesses have already launched marketing campaigns hoping to lure those potential customers.
Yet, many folks will not be eligible for a check at all and could end up in a bind if they've already hit the mall and put extra charges on their credit cards, counting on the rebate cash.
The global tax firm of Grant Thornton says if you belong to any of the following six categories of taxpayers, you should think twice before charging a purchase with plans to pay it off with that "free" government money. You may not be eligible for a rebate -- or at least not for a full or timely one -- if:

That article demonstrates nothing but a keen grasp of the obvious, December. I don't know why you bothered to post it.

You know, Most people will end up spending a lot of that money
at Walmart so this "US Stimulus package" is really a China
Stimulus package....

And this money is not appearing by Magic! It is debt that the
American Taxpayers are responsible for !!!!
So the REPS&DEMS think we can get out of Financial Problems
by accruing more debt !!! That just Genius !! Let vote them back
in to power !!

I'm with you Buck and to save others the waste of time here are the obvious reasons:

1. You owe the tax man money.

2. You make too much money.

3. You don't make enough money.

4. You don't file a tax return.

5. You're just unlucky.

You're getting your "free" money, but you have to wait your turn.

6. You don't have a valid Social Security Number.

Bingo! It didn't work in 2001 and 2004.......so let's try it again and go further in debt, thus de-valuing the dollar even more!

I'll be the first to say that it's not just a bad idea, but a blatant attempt to buy the votes of the mathematically challenged.

I'll be taking the money then giving my vote to the other candidate. :madlaugh:

Nothing ever wrong with being handed money you didn't expect to see.

Indeed. I'll be doing the intelligent thing (which coincidently the gov't doesn't want me to do ) and save/invest it rather then blow it on Wal-Mart.

I'm not getting one but if I was I'd use it along with other funds to blow on a new motorcycle.

I'll be getting $300-600. Can't wait. My folks will also be getting $1,800 bringing the grand total for my household to $2,000-2,300.

Yeah my parents will be getting like $1400. Somehow I doubt they'll give it to me to help fund my dream of a new bike tho. :(

That sucks. They promised my 2 sisters $300 each as that's really their money.

A front glass/screen door here. Woo-hoo! Just in time to catch the great weather coming in, and save on electricity for air conditioning.

This is another fallacy.
December, I know you like to post nutty stuff...EG; The invasion of Normandy never happened, but...
The checks are coming.
Not that I agree with it in the first place.

Hint:
Try to reform the past or set your predictions (via opinion pieces or not) farther into the future.
Being called on this stuff in the present can't be pleasant.

You've a got to learn from the MMGW crowd.
Those guys are pros!

Well, In the past week I sold scrap metal for $150. I got $500 refund for overpayment of utilities and $1300 refund for overpayment of homeowners insurance. I also got $130 from my dentist because the insurance covered more for my gold cap than they estimated and $100 for a rebate on two cell phones.

Add in the $1200 tax rebate, and I might just be able to cover what I owe the IRS.

I don't give a crap, income tax sucks. Hell, government in general just plain sucks.

I almost didn't bother filing. I've avoided so many 'unavoidable' bills I've realized that if you stay under the radar they miss you. :nana:

All this money and our children and grandchildren will be saddled with the interest on the debt in a worse way than we can even imagine. Right now we pay 250 billion a year in interest alone on our 9 trillion dollar national debt. The grandchildren will be paying a much higher interest payment. There won't be any money left over for anything else when they grow up, unless we stop spending like assholes, NOW.

I agree - that's why we can't invade the countries McCain, Hillary, and Obama want to, we can't afford it!

My tax rebate will be better spent than what the administration current and future would do with it!

The government is on life support at this point. They keep this up and at best we'll have another depression and at worst we'll end up like our Soviet friends.

Interesting you mentioned this. We had to save for one but we finally ordered it and it is due to be installed in May.

The cheapest bid from Lowes (drum roll) $2800.00...for an 8ft door. This for a Peachtree door. The Anderson door was $4600.00.

The peachtree door was actually nicer.

$1300 for overpayment of homeowners insurance? How many years did it take to accumulate that?

Just a year but it was on three properties. Our new company told the old company to discontinue our insurance but the old company kept it and kept taking it out of escrow. The new insurance company finally got that all straightened out.

Something tells me that liberals whine about these checks bet I'll be damned if one of them returns the check to the gov't. Just a guess.

On the other hand, why can't liberals look at this like welfare. You never hear them whining about welfare. So think of it like that.

I will proactively return my wife's and my rebate check with my tax return in the next few days.

But, not being a liberal I would guess that the comments wouldn't apply to me.

Wonder how that's going to work....will the government try and make you claim it as income anyway? This will be interesting....
