US Vice President Dick Cheney says he is not concerned about the views the American public holds on the long-drawn-out war in Iraq.

In an interview with ABC's Good Morning America, when the White House correspondent said polls show that two-third of Americans believe the war is not worth fighting, Cheney responded with a 'so?'
When the shocked correspondent asked if he was not concerned about what the Americans think, Cheney flatly said 'No. I think you cannot be blown off course by the fluctuations in the public opinion polls.'

Earlier on Tuesday, in an address the American troops in Iraq, Cheney claimed the longer the Iraq war goes on, the more Iraqi people 'trust' and feel 'better' about Americans.

This is while a BBC/ABC/ARD/NHK poll shows that 46 percent of Iraqis have no confidence whatsoever in the American occupiers and only four percent have a 'great deal of confidence' in US forces.

Another newly released poll by CNN shows that the American public's support for the war has sharply plummeted from 68 percent in 2003 when the war began to 36 percent.

So what's the surprise? We all know that Bush and Cheney care little for what the American public wants, could give a crap about the Consititution, and have no use for US or international law. As self appointed dictators they don't have to care.

Federal Recall Elections would fix that kinda attitude.

Well, those that do protest are corralled into "protest or free speech zones" mostly hidden from public view...an incredible invention of Bush, and the rest just aren't hurting enough yet to care about the future of their children (in debt to the government up to their necks)or this country (third world manufacturing and monetary status).

It's all coming, and it's only a matter of time.

"Land of the free and home of the brave" was coined when perhaps it may have been true. I don't think that really applies any more. Perhaps you should retire it.

In fairness to Mr. Bush, he did NOT invent this violation of the First Amendment. He simply expanded and broadened its use.

This is probably the only time I (sort of) agree with Cheney. You can't run a policy that changes with the polls. First, the polls are not always accurate. Second, the media has too much influence on what the idiot sheep think, and third, you were elected to do what you think is the right thing, regardless of public opinion.

It's the fault of the sheep that we have people in high office who don't DO the right thing.
But if they actually did what was right, there would still be a large segment of the population vocally against it.
