Hi again everyone. I'd like to thank all of you who argued for my return. I won't list everyone, but you know who you are and I know who you are, so thank you :). There are two of you who I do want to name though. Deadshot you are an awesome seeker of justice. You weren't fighting for me, personally, I know that, but your sense of right and wrong is stunning and great to see. Cheers. Alonzo, thank you for putting aside pride and ego and allowing me back in. It takes a big man to be able to do that, and it's appreciated.

Viola, viola,,,,, I never saw what got you banned - I thought your persistence in trying to switch me to Obama was possibly a bit much, but I realized you didn't cross any lines when I gave more thought to it.

I can't dis on persistence, it's an admirable trait! (And I'm not just saying that because I am persistent too, lol!)

Welcome back, Viola and thanks for the kind words.

I would like to offer you one piece of advice upon your return. Zo and Staff are busily putting their house in order. With the warning points and expunging of Labrocca, Zo and Staff are "large and in charge." So my advice is that when they warn you for any behavior that you toe the line, if not...well they won't make the same mistake twice.

Hope you're here for a long time, Vi.

AnnEsthesia
03-19-2008, 12:22 PM
Yep. They are. Even too many responses to the same person will be considered 'following that person around', even if they are one of the few people active on the board with you, so just be aware.

Jeez-Louise, AnnE how are you up to 8% all ready?!?!?!?

Easy. I told someone that instead of attacking others, he should report the posts. I was told I am harassing him. Which is why I say that if you are alone with just a few people on the forum, don't respond constantly to them, because you will be called on harassing them.

Well, I did respond to a lot of his posts, but there were only I think 4 or so of us on at that time... so yea, I responded to a lot of the things he was saying. I will be sure not to do that in the future, lest I be accused of "harassing" anyone. So, if I am in a debate with anyone and I do not respond for a while, that is why. I am just hedging my bets.

ADMIN, is this true? If AnnE and I get into a debate about how women need to be subserviant, :nana:, and AnnE and I go back and forth for twenty minutes one - or both of us - will get warned for harassment?

Or if we're debating and she's beating me, which with the topic above wouldn't be hard, I could simply say that she was harassing me and she'd get warned?

If true, I think I could get people warned on a almost consistent basis.:grrrr:

AnnEsthesia
03-19-2008, 01:58 PM
No, I think it would only hold true if you were responding to a conservative all over the board in different threads. I was told I was following him around, IIRC.

AnnEsthesia

You know if this goes both ways, i.e. I don't hear the excuse I heard before which was "We need conservatives here so back off!", I'll live with the rules.

But since I don't really trust the ADMIN that much, I question the 'stalking' rule...especially after seeing it applied to the gal who was stalked by the former site owner...:lmao:

AnnEsthesia
03-19-2008, 02:26 PM
Nah, it is ok. If they want me not to 'harass' the conservatives, then I will just talk to the liberals and the few conservatives whom I know are reasonable and won't be put off if I reply to them, lol.

ViolaLee
03-19-2008, 04:23 PM
That's a pretty tricky thing to enforce...I think the admin might want to just make a set of concrete rules about personal insults and stick with that. I don't think counting how many posts AnnE makes to a conservative is a clear-thinking way to moderate a board.

But don't mind me, I'm just going to try to toe the line like Deadshot advised.

Thanks for the welcome back preserva, Trish, jafar, saigo :):):)

That's still pretty messed up. You should PM Zo. Your not one to go after and harass someone. Sounds like a Mod over reaching to me.

AnnEsthesia

No, I do sometimes intentionally press buttons. But I was not doing so in this case, lol.

Alonzo
03-19-2008, 09:51 PM
Well I removed the warn bot and all warnings should now be sent by the person who warned you, so if there's an issue pm them, as that's what I would have to do anyway to get the reasoning.

But, anne, I was informed of that, but don't really know the specifics. If you need clarification pm the mod who warned you.

The harassment rule is not designed to go after people who continuously debate with someone or follow them around for the purpose of debate, it's there to reprimand people who has a pattern of attacking, ridiculing, or otherwise harassing that poster.

Remember how scorpion followed you around and kept causing problems by going after you? The rules targets that sort of behavior. In the past we had to warn people for personal attacks. And, sometimes, there were not explicit personal attacks being made, but a poster was being hounded and attacked in one form or another that was not related to debating the issues themselves. That's the behavior this rule is designed to go after.

That does not work. It worked until the last month or two, but since then the site has grown increasingly uncivil and we had significant member complaints and member loss. We went from 90 members per day down to just below 50. Since the rule change we are back up into the 80 range, and activity, in terms of actual posts, is higher than I've ever seen. At our peak point in members per day we were getting about 5-600 posts, we're getting 7-850 in the past few days.

DF still allows open debate, but the soft touch that worked so well in the beginning was failing miserably lately.

I don't think counting how many posts AnnE makes to a conservative is a clear-thinking way to moderate a board.

It's not, and that has absolutely nothing to do with the harassment, or any other, rule.

Hmm... I do not recall complaining about it. Yes, I think it was stupid. Had I felt it was completely unfair and screwed up, I would have PM'd you. However, I do think it was a silly warning. And I am explaining the new situation to people. Would you rather they just figure it out on their own?

AnnEsthesia
03-19-2008, 10:28 PM
Oh, and Scorpion was following me around making direct and rude personal comments. I would love to see examples from yesterday of me following someone around and the ONLY things I said were directly rude personal comments about one specific person.

I'm just clarifying things because there seems to be misconceptions, such as that we're just counting posts between people.

Sometimes, but I'd rather have reported posts than members leaving after being fed up with the lack of civility here.

Since I implemented these rules I've been flooded with pm's and reported posts, but activity is significantly up and members are increasing back to the level they were at, so it seems like they're working.
