Eddie Van Hallen just has a distinctive sound he isn't that great at guitar, If You listen to an extreme Power metal You'll find most of the greatest guitarist on earth. Herman Li from Dragonforce is one of the fastest guitarists in the world.

Hendrix is the only one in Clapton's universe. If you wanna talk about pure rock and roll guitarist, there is no one better than Hendrix, but all-around, Clapton is better. Could Hendrix have made an album like Clapton's Unplugged and would it have been anywhere near as good, I doubt it, that wasn't Hendrix's style. In addition [and this plays heavily in my mind because I'm a huge blues fan], Hendrix's early stuff, his blues albums don't hold a candle to Clapton's blues. Jimi's amazing, and it's probably 1a., 1b, but EC is the greatest all-around guitarist to ever grace God's Earth.
