There are harsh words, of course, but Rev. Jeremiah Wright is right on many issues.

The history of Barack Obama's much-credited pastor urging African Americans to sing 'God damn America' has stirred a media-frenzy.
Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's longtime minister, friend and adviser has blamed America for starting the AIDS virus, training professional killers, importing drugs and creating a racist society that would never elect an African American as president.
"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people," ABC news quoted the Reverend as saying in a 2003 sermon.
"God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme," he added.
In addition to damning America, in a Sept. 16, 2001 sermon he claimed the United States had brought al Qaeda attacks upon itself.
"We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Rev. Wright said.
"We supported Zionism shamelessly while ignoring the Palestinians and branding anybody who spoke out against it as being anti-Semitic.... and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards… America's chickens are coming home to roost," he told his congregation,” he said.
Rev. Wright, who announced his retirement last month, is widely considered as one of America's 10 most influential African American pastors.

This could well prove to be Obama's achilles heel. Obama can't duck 20 years of association with this fellow. Democrats are minimizing the "guilt by association" idea but it probably isn't going to work because they use it on McCain by associating him with GWB. Nope, this could very well be the beginning of the end for Obama, and Hillary is waiting in the wings to take the nomination away from him by suggesting to the super delegates they should abandon him over this matter.
If Obama somehow survives this issue, it will certainly be a bullet in the gun for the Republicans in the General election this November.

What issue, Brien?
It's not Obama who said it. Are you going to make a decision whom to vote for based on what other people say?.... I mean.... Come on....

Is it me, or does Obama look like he should be cast as the Joker in the new Batman movie?
Throw a little "white" make-up on, red lipstick, and a little green dye for his hair, and I think he could give either Jack Nicholson or Health Ledger a run for their money.
Lord knows, he CAN act well enough.

What issue...hmmm let's see. :ponder:
Obama attends the same church for 20 years, and has a close relationship over those 20 years with a pastor who has been ranting and raving racist and anti US rhetoric, all published on DVDs, and you have to ask what issue? :unreal:
Like it or not, people make decisions based, in part, by the company their candidates keep. And in this instance, the company Obama has been keeping speaks for itself.
All I am saying is, this is an issue, and will remain an issue, right through the general election if Obama is nominated by the Democrats. You really think the Republicans are going to let this association slide? Because if you do, you're dreaming there my friend.[hr]There are harsh words, of course, but Rev. Jeremiah Wright is right on many issues.
December; it doesn't matter if the Rev was right or wrong. When he is caught on DVD shouting statments like "God Damn America", well that just ain't good politics there my friend..

Brien, let's take emotional part aside....
Do you agree with this statement: We supported Zionism shamelessly while ignoring the Palestinians and branding anybody who spoke out against it as being anti-Semitic....?[hr]Is it me, or does Obama look like he should be cast as the Joker in the new Batman movie?

Wndrtch, I am NOT a supporter of Barack Obama (I am for Ron Paul) but personal attacks do not work.
In fact, some people want their enemies to attack them personally because this shows that they (their enemies) have nothing to say about the issues and it just makes them look stupid and childish....

December... It doesn't matter what I agree with or disagree with here. This is politics and in politics a candidate can't be closely associated with someone in the clergy that shouts: "God Damn America".
Don't you see it doesn't matter if the guy is right or wrong. It is the appearance of Obama's association with someone who is interpreted as hating America. Like I said, it just ain't good politics. No one is going to get elected in the US on a platform that is associated with, and preceived to be, rhetoric filled with racist hatred of America. It just ain't going to happen. Hillary must be dancing in her hotel room before she goes to bed at night.
Look how they marginaized and condemned Ron Paul when he spoke the truth in the debates about 911, US hedgemony around the world, and other controversial subjects. He was immediately marginalized as a kook and we supporters were called Ronulans by some.
Obama has skyrocketed in popularity by "appearances" in his campaign. He certainly hasn't been specific about much at all. Now it seems he may burn out because of appearances as well. As you probably know, the appearance in politics is usually all that matters.

Brien, I am not a Barack Obama supporter but I think we should not attack him (or anyone else) because of the statements made by his friends.

I think it does matter. Besides Rev. Jeremiah Wright said other things. And he explained why he feels that way.
I personally like America,but I don't like American Empire.
So I say - God Damn American Empire.
Don't you see it doesn't matter if the guy is right or wrong.
Oh come on now.... :D
It is the appearance of Obama's association with someone who is interpreted as hating America. Like I said, it just ain't good politics.
It is clear that Rev. Jeremiah Wright does NOT hate America - he hates Zionist America and it's policies

Well.... OK...
Let's than find out what friends and associates of other candidates have said in the past and make up our minds based only on that.
So.... What church does McCain go to? :)
Look how they marginaized and condemned Ron Paul when he spoke the truth in the debates about 911, US hedgemony around the world, and other controversial subjects. He was immediately marginalized as a kook and we supporters were called Ronulans by some.
I am confused by your logic now. We are not discussing what a candidate says but what OTHER people who are associated with him have to say.
I don't recall Ron Paul speaking the truth about 9/11....
I remember how during the debate Ron Paul was asked about 9/11 truthers (and 9/11 is inside job, of course) but he answered about THEM only and he said that he was not going to tell them what to do.
Obama has skyrocketed in popularity by "appearances" in his campaign. He certainly hasn't been specific about much at all. Now it seems he may burn out because of appearances as well. As you probably know, the appearance in politics is usually all that matters.
I am not sure that I can agree with you here. Yes, his speeches are pretty vague and hazy, but in most cases this is the way the most compaign speeches are. During the debate he was quite explicit in his views however....

He's got that new plan to fix social security by raising social security tax, capital gains tax, payroll taxes, etc. The funny thing is the plan still comes up way short of solving the issue and the program will only run out of money a few years later under his plan.
He has the other plan to sit down and have tea with our enemies and attack our ally pakistan.
I think he has the other plan to mandate that people go to the gov't doctor at the gov't hospital and it will only cost 1.1 Trillion dollars over 10 years.
There is another plan where he will surrender Iraq to the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda in Iraq as soon as possible.
Oh he is often very vague in specifics Brien, however he has plans for this country alright. Some plans...

December; You have missed the entire point I am making about this issue. You may not agree with how the electorate judges their candidates, but they do judge them by the company they keep in their lives. Do you seriously think if McCain attended KKK rallies, and was associated with the Grand Wizzard, he would get a single vote? Well maybe from the KKK.. Candidates are always judged by the company they keep both in public and in private.
As for Ron Paul, when he said that 911 was a direct result of US FP abroad, he was jumped on by Rudy like a chicken on a june bug. He was called names and marginalized by the media as a kook for believing this. This is what I meant on RP.
Bottom line...candidates are judged, like it or not, by the company they keep. This was my original point and I'm stickin to it. I understand that the electorate doesn't vote for the company, but they indeed paint the candidate with the same brush of the company they keep. I will be surprised if Obama can survive this going into the convention. Hillary is certainly licking her lips because she can now make the case he may not be electable. The seeds are planted and you can bet Hillary will water them whenever she can in the argument for the super delegates.
btw, I know you are no Obama supporter. Neither am I, but I am merely observing what is happening on the national stage over this matter. Just observations, not dogma.
Have a safe weekend.

Come on, LET'S ALL BE HONEST, if McCain had a WHITE PASTOR that was yelling all this garbage about the BLACK MAN and hating America the LIBERAL MEDIA would be ALL OVER IT. This video isn't new. Conservatives have been talking about it FOR MONTHS and now FINALLY it is STARTING to be shown? Be honest people...
And as for "who I associate with" mattering or not, OF COURSE IT DOES! Are you people crazy? If I hung out with KKK members, do you think that would effect anything about me or my opinions? Would ANYONE (*not associated with the KKK or racist beliefs) vote for me? No? Why not? Let's do the math... 1 + 1... carry the 4....

In fact, McCain has associated himself with a couple of real doozies. One of them is a guy from San Antonio, pastor of one of those mega churches, who has a real hardon for Catholics. The other one popped up yesterday--I forget what his schtick was, but it's something equally disgusting.
As to the hoo-raw about Trinity United Church of Christ, people were howling about it over a year ago. You just weren't paying attention.

Having a friend or associate in the KKK is one thing....
Getting your "sprirtual direction" from them for the last 20 years is a completely different matter all together.
It will be interesting to see if Obama throws this guy to the curb, or stands with him until his Presidential bid is smoldering on the ground.

You have to really agree with someone to get up and listen to them for an hour every Sunday and to allow them to baptize your children and to be the pastor of your wedding.
I missed where McCain worshipped and sat in front of a man who screams GOD DAMN AMERICA
unless it was where he was in captivity fighting for our rights, then he probably heard it.
