Actress from 'Gilligan's Island' serving probation under plea
DRIGGS, Idaho (AP) -- Dawn Wells, who played Mary Ann on "Gilligan's
Island," is serving six months' unsupervised probation after allegedly being
caught with marijuana in her car.
Dawn Wells played Mary Ann on "Gilligan's Island."
She was sentenced February 29 to five days in jail, fined $410.50 and placed
on probation after pleading guilty to one count of reckless driving.
Under a plea agreement, three misdemeanor counts -- driving under the
influence, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled
substance -- were dropped.
On October 18, Teton County sheriff's Deputy Joseph Gutierrez arrested Wells
as she was driving home from a surprise birthday party that was held for
her. According to the sheriff's office report, Gutierrez pulled Wells over
after noticing her swerve and repeatedly speed up and slow down. When
Gutierrez asked about a marijuana smell, Wells said she'd just given a ride
to three hitchhikers and had dropped them off when they began smoking
something. Gutierrez found half-smoked joints and two small cases used to
store marijuana.
The 69-year-old Wells, founder of the Idaho Film and Television Institute
and organizer of the region's annual family movie festival called the Spud
Fest, then failed a sobriety test.
Wells' lawyer, Ron Swafford, said that a friend of Wells testified he'd left
a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle after using it that day, and that
Wells was unaware of it. Swafford also said several witnesses were prepared
to testify that Wells had very little to drink at the party and was not
intoxicated when she left. He said she was swerving on the road because she
was trying to find the heater controls in her new car.

I bet she had a threesome, right before she got busted with the dope.
She looks innocent. They dont let ANYONE off a DUI. They dropped that charge. I doubt I could pass a sobriety test at 70 years old! Close your eyes and hold your head back and touch your nose? Thats hard sober!
She was fine when she left the party and WHO KNOWS? Maybe she DID pick up a hitchhiker who lit up in her car. This happened in October! They've had time to test for pot.

Mary Jane for Mary Ann?
70 years old and still smoking the rope.
At least she doesn't run the risk of embarrassing her parents.
Rock on...
I think it was Gilligan who sold her the weed. He was always a little DOPEY.:lmao:

Nah, I think the prof secretly had the hots for Ginger. Gilligan probably gave the weed to Mary Anne thinking it was oregano.

Could be...then Skipper whacked Gilligan with his cap.
I think I saw that episode.
Ginger was the airhead with the RED hair wasn't she? Good thing she never got it on with any of the men; imagine what their progeny would have been like.

More reefer madness...incarcerating a 71 year old woman for smoking weed. Will it ever end?

I agree brien.... this is the sad state we are in.... picking on old ladies because of what they choose to put in their bodies.
It would be different if she were at home. Right to Privacy.
...but when anybody gets behind the wheel.... the public safety has priority.
I have had 5 DUIs... I deserved every one of them. One of them was reduced to speeding when plea bargaining was still legal. (around 1980 or so)
No more plea bargaining for DUIs. I am ok with that.
I dont want some stoner kid "T-Boning" me at an intersection because he was spacing out on the pretty red/green/yellow lights.

How do you get it home without transporting it?
You, much like the police it seems ASSUME since she had it, she was under the influence.
How do you test level of influence for pot?!?
I am not talking about transporting it. I am talking about "under the influence"[hr]Its detectable in the hair.
[hr]But if she had picked up a hitchhiker..... who lit up.... there would be some "involuntary" ingestion. But prolly not enuff to be considered DUI. Not if she let them out when they lit up.[hr]Its looking like she had everything....

that would have gotten ANYONE else (except a cute movie star) a lot more than 5 DAYS.
I dont like when lady justice takes off her blindfold.
Simple possession of a small amount of pot should not be criminal.
But EVERYONE should be treated the same. Regardless of Race or Class.

In my state.( OHIO ). anything under 100 grams is a minor misdemeanor.. a slap on the wrist.. thats almost a quarter pound.. if its in one bag.. its just a 100 dollar fine.
In indiana and michigan and florida.. 1 joint.. and its slammer time..
some areas are alot more strict then others

If they were mixing it with alcohol, perhaps that might happen, but I remember some studies a few years ago where stoned drivers were proved to be safer than drunk drivers for the fact that they tended to drive slower and were more cautious. Their reaction time to unexpected events was slowed somewhat though. ;)

If it was blow, he probably could have fit is all into "lovey's" purse.

"I have had 5 DUIs... I deserved every one of them." (Dang)
Not to be overly judgmental, but....DANG! FIVE DUIs? Assuming you didn't get caught every time you drove drunk...you're lucky to be alive! Hope nobody else got hurt!

It was his traveling Hydro-kit.
Actually, the rumors are that Howel marooned them so he could start a cultivation farm, and have free labor. The girls served to "entertain" the guys, so they would work the fields longer.
