Can we really take the highroad and criticize another country for torture......and as for the houses being taken away to make room for the Olympics.......don't we call that emminent domain here? (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23576671/)

U.S. cites China for repression, torture
State Dept. report says Olympic host has poor record on human rights

updated 2 hours, 41 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - China, host of the summer Olympics, is an authoritarian nation
that denies its people basic human rights and freedoms, harasses journalists
and foreign aid workers and tortures prisoners, the United States charged
Tuesday.

China is still among the world's human rights abusers despite rapid economic
growth that has transformed large parts of Chinese society, the State
Department said in an annual accounting of human rights practices around the
world.

Portions of the report were obtained by The Associated Press ahead of its
release Tuesday. The report gives a chilling account of alleged torture in
China, including the use of electric shocks, beatings, shackles, and other
forms of abuse. It includes an account of a prisoner strapped to a "tiger
bench," as device that forces the legs to bend sometimes until they break.

The report details then lengths some Chinese officials have taken to enforce
China's well-known "one child" policy, and says forced relocations went up
last year. The report notes claims that people were forced from their homes
to make way for Olympic projects in Beijing.

I am wondering if the world will withhold its outburst of laughter in the national medial, not that they aren't exactly right about China.

That is the sad thing. China deserves to be placed as a second rate country for the way it treats its own citizens, but when the words come from the mouths of the Bush administration, its a set-up for a bad joke.

I think Lily got confused..... she should post that neo-con propaganda in Political Humor sub-forum:
Do you have a great cartoon, movie, article, or image that satires politics. Post it here.

Yeah, that unscented deodorant and those underinflated soccor balls at Gitmo are a real bitch, ain't they?

Gid forbid someone misses a chance to pray less than five times a day. Holy crap! We're all screwed, now!!!

When The United States catches up with China's record of killing, literally, millions of it own citizens, I'll say that we can't take the moral high ground.

Wasn't communism responsible for the deaths of hundreds of millions of people at the hands of their own gubmint in the 20th century? Was Mao Tse-Tung a commie, I can't remember?

Yeah, how could the U.S. possibly have a leg to stand on when accusing China of repression and torture? I mean, it's obvious that the U.S. roughing up scumbag terrorists that intentionally target innocent civilians, womens and childrens... is of moral equivalence to communist countries that routinely ignore human rights of their own citizens and brutally kill/control them.

Prisoners who refuse to confess are beaten, starved, choked, held under water, deprived of sleep, chained in positions designed to inflict maximum pain and restrict breathing, and subjected to a calculated program of brutality and petty cruelty for years on end without outside contact or respite. If the torture of others doesn't bother you, say so - but statements like yours belittling it are unacceptable in American society.

What does that have to do with a torturer criticizing other countries for torturing people?

And still nothing to back up anything in that paragraph?

I guess the irony of the US making these statements is lost on some people.

Sad, because I can remember the day when the US could make statements like this and it wouldn't be a joke.[hr]

So, as I understand it, America and China have comparable civil rights records.
You've GOT to be shitting me.

So killing millions of another country's citizens isn't counted?

The Gitmo inmates are treated much better.
If you want to be outraged, be mad about the incredibly brutal conditions in our own jails and prisons.
Low level non-violent offenders are routinely abused and killed, and no one cares.

Cruel and unusual punishment applies to our own people.
I don't give a rats ass about enemy combatants.

I'm guessing Hitler's Germans, the Emperor's Japanese, and Mussolini's Italians. And don't forget those English redcoats and Hessians we thumped too. LMAO

I'm livin' it. YOU are one of the ones that don't love your country anymore.

I bet you were even one of the ones that was flying the ChiCom colors back in the day.
