Sorry bout that,

1. But what happened with the Global Warming Hurricane Machine, that was so talked about last year?
2. We haven't seen a Hurricane this year, just some depression, are you depressed now?
3. Al Gore the Hurricane Cheer Leader sure has been quite, and he was so ready to get on his Hurricane Soap Box, if we even saw one Hurricane before now.
4. Seems the Democrats can't get Mother Nature to go along with them, and rip up some American Soil.

I love how liberals like to bitch out the republicans for creating fear when liberals do the exact same thing. Global warming is happening, not very many scientists dispute that. Disagreements come in when you start talking about the cause of it.

2. This year has been even hotter here in Texas, and *Zero Hurricane's.
You do know that hurricanes form in the ocean and not in Texas right?

Global warming won't really affect how many hurricanes we have, but it will enhance their strength.

Bobbylien is right.

It's changes in the Gulf Stream that effects the frequency and intensity of hurricanes more than anything else, Chess. Spend a day watching the Weather Channel instead of getting your weather information from Rush or the RNC website. You could learn a lot.

Hurricanes, a partisan issue.

Yes folkels, our views of the weather should be influenced by our political ideas.

Let me state firmly and unequivocally, that I am firmly in the anti-hurricane camp.

I'm 100% opposed to hurricanes, tornados, and other sundry windy storms.

These storms run again our 'Merican' values.

Praise the Lord and Amen.

Chess, you do realize that weather and the effects of global warming are... in fact global right?

There have been plenty of heavy storms, hurricanes, typhoons and super typhoons around the world this year. Just because the U.S. has been lucky this season that doesn't indicate anything at all.

Check for yourself (http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/index.html)

Hey it is what it is! Basically the Democrats have control of the Congress and can pass all the bills they want, but if the President wishes to he can Veto. The President on the other hand want's certain legislation passed and will want to shore up his approval rating prior to leaving office. If they can do as President Bush said and find middle ground then both parties can get some good legislation passed that will benefit the Greatest Nation on this Earth!

Politics are Grand. Where else but the Good Ole USA can you chang parties without a coup! Another reason why Americans alwasy find the Middle ground!

Well, I'm glad to see that you've changed it from everything the congress and senate want, to not likely veto everything. My statement still stands however. If Bush starts vetoing everything the Democrats propose, then sorry chess......it's going to look like he can't play well with others, it's also going to hurt the Republicans that look like they don't want what's best for America. I really don't think you want that for your party or president, do you?

Yes I am optimistic but not just because I am a Democrat. All one has to do is study why the last election came out as it did, with untoild numbers of Republicans crossing the line to the blue side asnd you can then maybe understand. It does take a rocket scoentist to understand that they were totally disillusioned by their own elected leaders and the decisions thy made and the statements they uttered. And th number of individual member scandals was far too much to take any more. And to get back to the original idea of this thread, their total total disregard of the problem of global warming. You know stwardship of this planet is not a political issue but they made it one and if you love this planet and want to see it prosper, it doesnt matter if you are Republican or Democrat.......there are certainthings that must be done and if the group in power now won't do it, you find another group that will.

One day Chess, investigate the entire field of broadast journalism. Then maybe you will understand the situastion involving Rush, Hannity and the rest. IUt has nothing to do with whether real patriots or fake patriots like him or hate him. Its ratings plain and simple. If he gets the audience, then advertisers get that same audience and if they like the number, rush stays but if he loses his audience....bye bye rush. And the Drug scandal plus the Michael J Fox Debacle did not help him one bit. But we dont have to force him off the air. We just stop listening and when the ratings tank, he tanks.

Chess. your comment about the growth of Rush's audience is proof positive you know nothing about the broadcast journalism industry. Rush's ratings are dropping. The drugs and Michael J Fox have caused that to happen, plus the appearance of liberal talk shows and the awakening of the American public. Rush is just a pompous loud mouth who depends on GOP talking points to supply him with things to say. Add to that the animosity against Sean Hannity that is growing and of course against Coulter and Savage, and if you have 20-20 vision, you will see the shadow they cast in the past is growing smaller. Since you claim to be so gosh darn brilliant and important and strong, I think that maybe you are man enough to take my advice and do some open minded investigation.
As far as rough men allowing us to sleep safely at night....I dont know where that quote comes from but I am not impressed. Its the men with brains who devise the means to protect us who allow us to sleep at night and that includes the civilian thinkers and the soldiers. I would never trust my safety and that of my family, just to a bynch of rough men. And I served in the armed forces long enough to know what I am talking about.

Oh Chess, your desparation is so evident. Of course Rush is far from done but his ratings are down and the kind of financial problems facing Air America will lead to reorganization, not a full shut down. Thats what happens in business. Bankruptcy does not have to mean total destruction. Hannity is becoming non-essential. Slowly but surely, the numbers show Ed Shultz is cutting into his listeners with a sharp knife. So is Randi Rhodes and Al Franken. Bill O'Reilly is slowly becoming a joke.
Chess, I am not desparate in the least. Actually, I am quite amused at the way the hard right is reacting to the last election. Chess.......your knowledge of the media is miniscule and totally off base. I suggest you either do research into how it works or move to a different subject. And your knowledge of Limbaugh is totally laughable.

Sorry bout that,

1. But Newscaster, Rush could run, just like Hilary could.
2. Its a free country.
3. Rush says he won't take the pay cut.
4. But he may change his mind, people often do.
5. Power is valuable to him as much as anyone else.
6. Leading this Nation in these troubled times would be a feather in any-one's hat.
7. I wouldn't be surprised if he ran.

"People sleep safely in their beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence upon those who would do them harm." George Orwell

Alternative: "We sleep safely at night because rough men stand ready to visit violence on those who would harm us."
Notes: allegedly said by George Orwell although there is no evidence that Orwell ever wrote or uttered either of these versions of this idea. They do bear some similarity to comments made in an essay that Orwell wrote on Rudyard Kipling, when quoting from one of his poems

Now that is just a sad attempt to find something to pick at pirate.Â*Â*You have just made my whole night.Â*Â*Would you like my vaccination records so that you can try to find something there as well, maybe my 4th grade report cards?Â*Â*I am literally rolling over this one.Â*Â*I know, how about the records from my paper route when I was 16 through the rural Vernon Texas area?

Thank you for once again giving me something at which to laugh.

Sorry, Boogy.

A quote you post here multiple times a day to make a political point is more than fair game and a bit more relevant than your paper route.

Especially since the author of your seemingly forged quote would certainly disagree with almost every aspect of your politics.

You're just throwing a tantrum because using this quote makes your look foolish.Â*Â*Sorry, that's not my fault.

A tantrum? Thats rich. I have been civil and my arguments cogent throughout your attempts to belittle me.

I truly enjoy your commentary pirate, it shows me every day what arrogance can bring to a debate............absolutely nothing.

Arrogance brings more than ignorance does.

What's so funny is you don't seem to mind that you are using a forged quote.Â*Â*That shows a level of intellectual dishonesty that proves my point better than I ever could.

Maybe I'll make up a quote about how Reagan supported universal healthcare.

Truth and facts actually matter, Boogie.

Pirate, I am using a quote whose sentiments I happen to appreciate and understand.Â*Â*You seem to put a great deal of weight behind your assessment of the validity of it and your assumption that I am using it with the intent to mislead.Â*Â*Such foolish actions are truly where the intellectual dishonesty comes into the debate.

My question about the report cards still stands.Â*Â*If you are reading intent to deceive into my sig line you have completely lost the debate, will you belittle my punctuation next?Â*Â*How about spelling?

The quote is generally attributed to Orwell and when it is proven to not have been stated by him, I will gladly re-attribute it in my sig line.

Now, when you are ready to grow up and join the debate at hand and cease this personal vendetta you seem to be engaged in I would love to continue a discussion ON TOPIC!

Pirate, I am using a quote whose sentiments I happen to appreciate and understand.
It's also false.Â*Â*I think that's important.Â*Â*It's unfortunate that you don't.

Â*Â*You seem to put a great deal of weight behind your assessment of the validity of it and your assumption that I am using it with the intent to mislead.
Show me where I said you intend to mislead.

I think you've made a mistake of ignorance and are unable to admit it.

My question about the report cards still stands.Â*If you are reading intent to deceive into my sig line you have completely lost the debate, will you belittle my punctuation next?Â*Â*How about spelling?
What debate?Â*Â*I wasn't participating in this thread until another poster brought up your sig.

Are you saying that the quotes you put in your sig have no political intent to them?Â*Â*If that's the case, then I'm off-base.Â*Â*I think everyone here knows that's not the case.

The quote is generally attributed to Orwell and when it is proven to not have been stated by him, I will gladly re-attribute it in my sig line.

It's generally attributed to Orwell by those ignorant of the fact that it's forged.

Explain to me how I prove something was NOT said by someone.Â*Â*That's proving a negative and is impossible.Â*Â*The burden of proof is on you to prove that it is a quote.

Why not just quote the sentence before and after this quote from the document it came from?Â*Â*That'd should be trivial if this is a real quote.

compare this:

Now, when you are ready to grow up and join the debate at hand and cease this personal vendetta you seem to be engaged in I would love to continue a discussion ON TOPIC!

Yeah, you're nothing but civil, Boogy.

You guys are involved in a totally pointless debate. It really doesnt matter who did or did not utter the alleged quote. Look at what the quote is believed to be saying and see if it makes sense. Even if it was George Orwell, he lived in a time period that was quite different from today. What he may have said then, is not necessarily what he might say today and since there is no way of asking him, I'd forget about it.

I respectfully disagree.

Anyone who's read Orwell knows that his political opinions were decidedly different from the content of Boogy's false quote.Â*Â*If I put up a quote from Barry Goldwater in which he states support for high taxes, you don't think people like Boogy would jump all over me, assuming it was false?

Boogy, most likely without knowing, tried to co-op one of the most anti-rightwing authors of the 20th century to his cause.

What's unfortunate is that, shown his error, shown the truth, Boogy still chooses to be on the same side of the argument.Â*Â*That seems to be a common trait of conservative today.

Again, I think truth matters here.

The point would be settled if Boogy could find where in Orwell's writings that the quote came from. Online sources for quotes aren't always correct, as I discovered in a quote thread I started on another board. Sourcing it to original writings would be the answer...

I don't think it is accurate, as my brief Google search bears out. One for the piratemonkey.
