View Full Version : Obama supporters whine: YOU DARKENED OBAMA!

Oh come on, when you play the race card at least do it better than this:

Did the Hillary Clinton campaign try to make Barack Obama look blacker for a recent attack ad? The simple answer seems to be yes. But whether it was intentional is a grayer matter.

Debate is raging in the blogosphere about a recent campaign ad for Clinton which shows footage from a MSNBC debate where Obama discusses Afghanistan.

Obama's skin is clearly darker in the ad than in the debate footage posted on YouTube. And as the blogger Troutnut on dailykos.com points out, the ad also squishes the image to make it fit on one side of the screen, so his face looks fatter.

But as to whether it was on purpose is debatable. Hunter Thompson on mydd.com responded it could simply be an issue with colour balance. And certainly, there's an argument for this: John Aravosis of americablog.com posts screen captures of three different versions of the video. And although none of the examples are quite as dark as the Clinton ad, it does show the variations possible.

(The squishing issue, despite not being talked about as much, is less justifiable. Only laziness could innocently explain why the image of Obama was poorly re-sized and not just cropped.)

But what's most interesting are the accusations themselves. Assuming the allegations are true, what benefits do the accusers think Clinton would gain from this stunt? It's an odd comment on the American psyche that if Obama's skin were to become a shade or two darker, it would cause people not to vote for him.

It's that notion that because Obama (politics aside) is a skinny, light-skinned African American he is more electable in the U.S. than say, James Earl Jones (though he does become president in The Man - And he was Vader, I mean he could just use the force on Osama and be done with it!). It would be like Obama's campaign trying to digitally add an apron onto Clinton to make her look like a maid because she's a woman.

I'm not saying they're aren't bigoted voters in the States. Many live here too. But it requires such a mild racist or sexist, to even consider voting for Obama or Clinton because he is only kind-of black or she is only sort-of a woman.

And Americans aren't really known for their subtlety.

This is the dumbest accusation ever!

Can't they just lighten him back up using the shining ray of Hope?

I don't see the problem.

Alonzo, are you saying it's dumb for Hillary's campaign to do this or that it's dumb for people to think that they are doing something dirty to win?

Because I would not put any dirty thing beyond Hillary Clinton's campaign.

Now she's comparing Obama to Ken Starr, Ken Starr was an honorable man.

More reasons to vote for Obama...

I'm saying it's dumb for people to think that they did this for any racist reason. They might have darkened the image to make the candidate less appealing, because poor lighting in an image makes people less appealing and people tend to like those that are more visually appealing, but to suggest they're trying to make him "blacker", as in the race sense, is ridiculous.

In your humble opinion...

Beg pardon...do you think that Hillary Clinton's campaign is angelic and would never do certain things in order to win?

Do you think that any accusation against them should automatically be taken seriously?

If it makes sense in the context of suspicious motives, yes.

Give the premise some credibility and look for the evidence.

Just because we like someone... doesn't mean that shit doesn't stick to their ass when they poop.

Has there been any other accusations of underhanded tactics by the Clinton campaign?

So people, unless they saw this picture, would not know Obama was black? Interesting.

Let me put it another way that will satisfy both of us, that makes about as much sense as the 9/11 conspiracy theories that say the u.s. staged the attacks.

I'm not sure what you're referring to, but it would be stupid for Hillary to open the Ken Starr "door".[hr]

I think the inference would be dark skinned instead of light.

It WAS very stupid for her to open the Ken Starr door since she thinks Ken Starr is perceived as some sort of demon by her uneducated voters. Those of us with common sense know her husband was impeached, not Ken Starr. Futhermore, but for Monica Lewinsky, the stained dress and a blow job, there would be no Ken Starr. Obama should make that clear. She is trying to paint Ken Starr out to be a villain therefore saying Obama is the same type of person. But those of us who can think really know the truth. I guess it's a semi-smart move since Clinton knows that the people who are most likely to vote for her are also the ones who are also less likely to read. However, if Obama is smart, and we all know he is, he should drag Ken Starr into this race just as she has. Does American really want another 4 years of drama thanks to the Clintons? I think Obama can further make his case that electing Hillary Clinton would be inviting more of the same.

Point of interest...if this was done by the McCain campaign, would you hold the same opinion?
No, you probably wouldn't, because every "free thinking" American Knows that the GOP is racist, right?
This sort of bias is not going to hold much water after everyone sees what the Clintons do to Obama in order to steal the election.[hr]http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/today.parcoltop11.35513.ImageFile.jpg

Holy Shiit!
Doesn't even look like the same guy!
That is extreme!
Looks like he was airbrushed.
That is definitely not accidental!
