Q: “What about grants for sex education in the United States? Should they include instructions about using contraceptives? Or should it be Bush’s policy, which is just abstinence?”

Mr. McCain: (Long pause) “Ahhh. I think I support the president’s policy.”

Q: “So no contraception, no counseling on contraception. Just abstinence. Do you think contraceptives help stop the spread of HIV?”

Mr. McCain: (Long pause) “You’ve stumped me.”

Q: “I mean, I think you’d probably agree it probably does help stop it?”

Mr. McCain: (Laughs) “Are we on the Straight Talk express? I’m not informed enough on it. Let me find out. You know, I’m sure I’ve taken a position on it on the past. I have to find out what my position was. Brian, would you find out what my position is on contraception – I’m sure I’m opposed to government spending on it, I’m sure I support the president’s policies on it.”

Q: “But you would agree that condoms do stop the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Would you say: ‘No, we’re not going to distribute them,’ knowing that?”

Mr. McCain: (Twelve-second pause) “Get me Coburn’s thing, ask Weaver to get me Coburn’s paper that he just gave me in the last couple of days. I’ve never gotten into these issues before.”

Q: Are you really this stupid, or are you refusing to answer the question for fear of saying something to offend the fundies you're trying to sucker into voting for you?

I'm also quite fond of "Brian, would you find out what my position is on contraception". You don't know what your own opinion is? *Really?*

Maybe he thought condom was a new form of condominium?

Haven't we had enough of clueless republican presidents (and candidates) over the last three decades? If you don't know that a condom is the first line of defense in the STD war, you fail the test. Jeez.

????.....or perhaps he refused for fear of offending gays that he was trying to sucker into voting for him.......

after all, the obvious response is...."liberals have been promoting the use of condoms for twenty years......has it stopped it?

Because all people use condoms, Prophet? Are you saying that condom use does NOT help stop the spread of diseases?

Are you saying that condom use does NOT help stop the spread of STDs or HIV?

Again, be careful, studies have shown that it does, but it requires people to use them. That's the biggest problem IMO, is that people are not using them.

But promoting condom use is STILL a good thing.

Countless millions of dollars and sixty or seventy odd years have been spent educating the public that condoms help stop Aids and other VDs from spreading. It was all for nothing. :dork:

Are you saying that condom use does NOT help stop the spread of STDs or HIV?

nope, I'm saying the same thing McCain could have said if he wasn't so busy being PC.....that you folks have been preaching about condom use for 20 years and it has done nothing to reduce sexually transmitted diseases.....some folks would have reassessed their message by now.....

But promoting condom use is STILL a good thing.

sure, so is promoting not having sex.....

and giving out clean needles is a good thing, but so is getting people off drugs.....

Has done NOTHING? Do you have any evidence to support that it has done NOTHING?

So unless your argument is that STD rates would be equal or lower than they are now, if we didn't have condoms, I don't really see your point.
