There is no need to wash the brain of a 6 year old child.Â*Â*This child's brain is like a book with nothing written on the pages, and education can write anything on this child's mind, providing the right technic is used.Â*Â*Mass public education of children, is not brain washing, but brain programming.
Education is the organization of acquired habits of conduct and tendencies to behavior....Â*Â* If we reflect upon the various ideals of education that are prevalent in the different countries, we see that what they all aim at is to organize capacities for conduct.Â*Â*This is most immediately obvious in Germany, where the explicitly avowed aim of the higher education is to turn the student into an instrument for advancing scientific discovery.Â*Â*TALKS TO TEACHERS ON PYSCHOLOGY- by William James 1899
This is not what mass public education in the US was about.Â*Â*Public education is like a genii in a bottle.Â*Â*Its defined purpose in the wish and the students are the genii.Â*Â*In 1958 we changed the wish.Â*Â*
The original purpose of free public education in the US was to prepare the young for good citizenship.Â*Â*It was to Americanize the flood of immigrants, knowing the parents would learn from their children.Â*Â*It was to make us a strong and united nation, as Cicero (ancient Roman statesman) understood the need for social harmony and learned values- to our liberty and justice.Â*Â*This is almost exactly like religious education, in that Learning good citizenship was learning self control and morals. This was done through classroom discipline and literature.Â*Â*Children read and memorized poems.Â*Â*They read mythology and hero stories from around the world.Â*Â*It was the same thing religion does, only without the religious dogma.Â*Â*
This started to change when we mobilized for the first world war, and we introduced vocational training for the first time.Â*Â*Hello!Â*Â*Until WWI education was not for industry or science or technology.Â*Â*It was not about vocational training, nor for economic gain (materialistic concerns).Â*Â* As soon as vocational training was introduced to public education, it became obvious how important it is to improving the whole our society.Â*Â*Adding vocational education and the sciences to public education was a huge improvement that has greatly benefitted our country.
The problem comes in 1958, when we changed the wish.Â*Â*Like the right amount of water keeps plants and animals alive and too much of it kills!Â*Â*
Until those educated since 1958 came of age, the meaning of being an American was very different from the meaning of being a German.Â*Â*Both countries were Christian, and both had expereince with industry and democracy, and yet they were enemies.Â*Â*In 1958 we adopted Germany education and the German model of bureaucracy.Â*Â*We changed the organize capacities for conduct and that brings us to Bush declaring the US is the New World Order.Â*Â*This change threatens our democracy, and the world, because it is much more than change in the subjects taught.Â*Â*It is a change in social organization and purpose.Â*Â*Only when we become aware of the change and can contrast the old with new, can we judge if this change is good or bad.Â*Â*I am concerned that for all the good, the altimate result will be the destruction of our democracy.Â*Â*
Unless we are literate in Greek and Roman classics, we do not have the democracy we defended in two world wars, and who isn't angry with me for saying this?Â*Â*I think you all pretty much hate me, but if we do not become aware of what has happened, all those thousands of people who died in war, died for nothing.Â*Â*The democracy we were, is forgotten and that is no longer what we are defending.Â*Â*This is almost equal to Christians becoming Satanist.Â*Â*Same belief, different goals.Â*Â*Serving self and to hell with others, comes at a cost.Â*Â*There is a moral reason for serving others, but many posters are not aware of that morality.Â*Â*
