Russia warns Iran on missiles, uranium enrichment
Wed Feb 13, 2008 1:52pm EST

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia warned Iran on Wednesday that its development of rockets and continued uranium enrichment was creating the impression Tehran was intentionally ignoring the concerns of the international community.

"We do not approve of Iran's actions in constantly demonstrating its intentions to develop its rocket sector and continue enriching uranium," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Russian news agencies.

"From the point of view of international law these actions are not forbidden, but you can also not ignore that in previous years a whole host of problems were uncovered in Iran's nuclear program," Lavrov said, Interfax news agency reported.

"Until these problems can be removed I think it is advisable to refrain from steps, and especially from statements, that merely heat up the atmosphere and create the impression that Iran really has made up its mind to ignore the international community, the United Nations Security Council and the IAEA," he said.

Iran launched a rocket last week it said was designed to carry its first locally made research satellite next year, showing advances in ballistics at a time when Western powers are already wary it may be developing a nuclear weapon.

But if Iran is actually enriching uranium for the purpose of a clandestine nuclear bomb program...who can blame them?

The US seems reluctant to attack a nation that might retaliate with nukes, like North Korea.

But it was willing to attack and sieze a nation that was not holding nukes like Iraq.

What does that tell you about US policy?

And other nations strategies for defense?

So what if Iran is developing a nuclear power program and a fledgling space program. Why are you allowed to and they aren't? They are NOT breaking any laws or violating any treaties.

Hey Pat...get back to me when you discover what WMDs are. We didn't send inspectors to Iraq simply to find nuclear weapons. Try locating a book by an Iraqi scientist called (I think it’s called) “the bomb in my garden” (It was written by an Iraqi so it might be more believable than if …say an American President had suggested it.) Also there was that thing called the Korean War where them guys from the north invaded the south. Some people call that um…AN ACT OF AGRESSION. Knowing a little bit about military strategy, take my word for it, it might save your a$$ or the a$$ of your allies, if self preservation is any sort of a priority, to do what you can to keep those countries who invaded others from getting the really big stuff.
You don’t care for my “antiquated” use of the word “commie” huh? No problem, try…."tyrant" as in Uncle Joe Stalin a liberal icon. Or try this one…"tin horn two bit dictator" as in Uncle Fidel Castro. Maybe you had the chance to see him in person when he last spoke at some liberal university not too long ago. Need another? How about "murderer" as in Daniel Ortega. Drawing a blank? Let me help. Ortega seized power in Nicaragua and started the South American death squads, killing and jailing thousands. But not to worry your liberal buddies went on down in an attempt to support him in his reelection. (That’s funny!) Oh yea, lets not forget about the liberal Senator who sent good ole Daniel an apology letter stating how sorry he was to be part of the government who eventually forced him out and held a real election, one monitored by the United Nations some time later. Daniel lost!

Jafar that is a very twisted way of looking at it. I'm not going to go into whether or not their nuclear power program is for nukes or not, because there isn't enough public proof out there.

But come on, space program?!? Sure, you can loft a sattelite with one of Iran's missiles, but you can't deny the fact that they can also use them to put a chemical warhead on Tel Aviv. You don't think that Iran is weaponizing their "space rockets"?!?

Russia to sell advanced air defense systems to Iran

TEHRAN, December 26 (RIA Novosti) - Iran signed a contract with Russia on Tuesday for the delivery of advanced S-300 air defense missile systems to the Islamic Republic, an Iranian news agency reported on Wednesday.

An advanced version of the S-300 missile system, called S-300PMU1 (SA-20 Gargoyle), has a range of over 150 kilometers (about 100 miles) and can intercept ballistic missiles and aircraft at low and high altitudes, making this system an effective tool for warding off possible air strikes on Iran.

"S-300 air defense systems will be delivered to Iran under an earlier contract signed with Russia," the Fars news agency quoted Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar as saying.

U.S. authorities have repeatedly called on Russia to stop arms deliveries to countries whose political regimes Washington disapproves of, including Iran.
However, [Russian President Vladimir Putin said in October that Russia would not take into consideration attempts to impose arms deal restrictions "based on unilateral and politicized assessments".

Iran and Russia may establish joint Navy in Caspian Sea

TEHRAN, October 15 (RIA Novosti) - Iran will join a Russian-proposed joint naval task force in the Caspian region only after the legal status of the Caspian Sea has been determined, an Iranian analyst said on Monday.

Moscow proposed setting up a joint naval force of Caspian Sea countries, to be named CasFor, in October 2005. According to the proposal, the five littoral states - Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan - will join efforts to prevent terrorism and trafficking in arms, narcotics and weapons of mass destruction in the Caspian Sea.
