I am a bit curious on the way people can believe some things, yet totally disreguard something else as pure fantacy. Personally I am a big sceptic. I am a certainly a "doubting Thomas" when it comes to believing just anything. It amazes me that grown adults believe in the magical realm of religion and accept it as the complete truth through faith. Faith, as I see it, means to blindly believe something because you hope it to be so.
Now when you look at modern day conspiracy theories, these same people who can believe in miracles, an afterlife, a magical god, quickly dismiss conspiracy theories as being the overactive imagination of "nuts". I tend to think that faith may play a part in blinding people to looking for the truth. People put faith in the leaders and the government that they would never intentionally do anyone any harm. I suppose Watergate started out as a conspiracy theory, yet if it had not been for a handfull of dedicated reporters seeking the truth, Nixon would never have been brought down.
When you look at 9-11 and the people who think it was an inside job, or the assasination of president Kennedy, most people dismiss it as being too outrageous to accept. I do not know what to believe, but I do like to look for motives, who has the most to gain. Wonder if the president did have something to do with bringing down the towers? Is the subject too tabboo to discuss? Does asking the question shatter people's faith in governmet and our leaders?
When a child is murdered the police will check out everyone. When Susan Smith drownded her children in a lake, people were more inclined to believe her than to question their faith in motherhood, yet the police persued the case with an open mind and discovered that the most horrible possibilty was indeed true.
I think we treat our presidents and leaders like sacred cows in this country, especially if they are part of our political party. We hate to believe that they can do any wrong until the truth smacks us in the face. I have seen the movie Zeitgiest as well as other videos, and I must say that I have doubt. I see motive. If I were a police investigator, I would see probable cause to invesigate further.
