CORPUS CHRISTI — Here's to better luck this time.
Vice President Dick Cheney is returning this weekend to the South Texas ranch where he accidentally shot a hunting companion two years ago. Anne Armstrong said Cheney was expected to arrive today at the Armstrong's 50,000-acre ranch.
"We have a wonderful quail crop, and he is a fabulous shot," said Armstrong, a former U.S. ambassador to Great Britain and adviser to Republican presidents.
It's Cheney's first trip back to the ranch since the Feb. 11, 2006, hunting mishap that sparked a worldwide frenzy of scrutiny and jokes at the vice president's expense.
Cheney shot Austin attorney Harry Whittington in the torso, neck and face when he pulled the trigger on his 28-gauge shotgun. The vice president later called it "one of the worst days of my life" and said, "The image of him falling is something I'll never ever be able to get out of my mind."
The shooting was ruled an accident. Whittington was hospitalized for six days.
Press secretary Megan Mitchell said Cheney will give a speech in Pennsylvania today before traveling to South Texas, where he is scheduled to stay through Sunday afternoon.
"It's a private visit with no public appearances," she said.
Cheney missed last year's annual trip to his longtime friends' ranch because of scheduling conflicts, Armstrong said.
Armstrong said Whittington hunted at the ranch last year, but couldn't make it for this weekend's visit.

One of these days someone will make a little gun and teach a quail to use it, and then the fun will really begin!

MrHappy, if recent events are any indication, it's probably because Republicans have a soft spot for two guys.

I'm struggling to see where there is any point to this thread or it's relevance to current events.
I guess no one here on the Left has ever had an accident. How profound.

Accident? It was an accident?
Of course it couldn't be an accident could it? Cheney deliberately shot an old friend in a hunting INCIDENT and got away with it.
You people are quite "profound" in your selective intelligence.

Isn't that a pattern? Criminals like to go back to the scene of the crime to try to recapture the moment.

Just to prove Truth Detector wrong, I had an accident with a gun once. Dad was teaching me how to use a shotgun and a neighbor's goat got loose, zipped across our yard and stopped right in front of me -- just as I pulled the trigger. I nailed the goat in the ear, and thank God I didn't kill it!

Geez, I didn't realize we had any Cheney admirers here, TD. Sorry you were offended.
My own beef with the issue is that Cheney was using a wimpy little 28 ga. shotgun instead of a manly 12 ga magnum. I sorta took that as evidence that Cheney is reall a wuss--a very RICH wuss, but a wuss nonetheless.
It was nice that his target apologized for getting shot, though. I wonder if he would have been alive to apologize if Cheney ahd used a REAL gun?:nana:

What was the conflict I wonder?.. He was to busy counting his money or maybe he was just kikkin back remembering his good ole days of being a college dropout and a draft dodger
Armstrong said Whittington hunted at the ranch last year, but couldn't make it for this weekend's visit.
Well duhhhh.. and why wouldn't Whittington be able to make it this year?.. I'll give ya 3 guesses.. would.. Dick, Cheney, and Gun give you any hints?

I don't think anyone was trying to offend anyone..you Truth or anyone else that reads this thread... I certainly am not either.. How's this..I'll just say that your right, It was an accident and the dummy that got in the way of the buckshot, ( shot by the guy your defending ), said he was sorry.. There is lots out there on the net to read about your Vice President.. Here is a good place for anyone to start.

Note : after one reads the facts and accepts' them.. they will then possibly realize that whenever talking about Cheney, The people in this thread aren't the ones with selective intelligence. Its the people that believe Dick Cheney has any good in himself or has done anything good for anyone.. accident or not he is an evil and deceiving person.. I honestly can't think of 1 good thing he has done. Although one thing is true concerning "selective intelligence", no matter how "profound". Dick Cheney is the master at it and he has gotten away with all his life!!!

Is it asking too much, for Whittington to shoot back in self defense? :fight:

oh ya.. thats right my friend I forgot about that.. He did have a few drinks before he went out shooting that day didn't he. Anyone else would have done that they would have been charged with a crime.. But not Dick. Maybe he should try some of that non - alcoholic stuff this time and he can just pretend he is tanked.. lol

I don't know cronic. From the quails point of view maybe we should swap his beer with rum? After all he not only avoids shooting them, but he'll take out a few others who shoot at them as well.

You see this at times in the mafia, where the person roughed up apologizes to the godfather for being an inconvenience.

Me, a Cheney admirer; how amusing that a genius like you would make such a claim about someone who merely points out the lies, distortions and attempts to impugn good people’s character for nothing more than purely political reasons. That would be like saying I am offended by the blatant ignorance on this forum with all it's conspiracies about how evil Cheney and Bush are; nothing could be further from the truth.
I am just pointing out the OBVIOUS here; that one has to be simple beyond the pale to suggest that Cheney would shoot a friend on purpose. But then, since when does REALITY have anything to do with the whacky leftists and loony independents here?
As for your opinion about Cheney being less of a man for using a 28 gauge; how profound are you? I guess one has to be a “genius” like you to come up with such hyperbole and patently trivial issues.
Carry on.

Hunters shoot people thinking they're deer or other animals. Who know how much alcohol cheney had in him?

Well yeah, I am simple beyond the pale: remember, I'm a dog. I don't do quail, though. As to whether Cheney would shoot a friend on purpose, I'm not so sure. One thing is clear about it, though: he's unforgivably careless, and I have no qualms about pointing it out.
I do think your irony detector, like most republicans, is anemic: I really don't give a rat's ass how big his shotgun was. It's just fun go gig people who believe so fervently that bigger is better. I'm sure he uses the 28 gauge because the impact is prolly less on his heart.
Finally, as to my profundity, you'll never encounter a deeper flat coat retreiver than me. And THAT you can take to the bank.
WOOF!
Of course it couldn't be an accident could it? Cheney deliberately shot an old friend in a hunting INCIDENT and got away with it.
You people are quite "profound" in your selective intelligence.Who really has "selective intelligence" here?
Would he have "got away with it"... if he hadnt hidden from the cops for 24 hours... until he had sobered up?
The law says you must IMMEDIATELY report all hunting accidents.
Its a felony not to.
:fight:[hr].... and you cant sent somebody else to report it. The shooter has to do it.
