Iran tests sounding rocket, unveils first homemade satellite

TEHRAN/MOSCOW, February 4 (RIA Novosti) - Iran successfully launched on Monday a sounding rocket as a preliminary step toward sending its first homemade research satellite into orbit, national media said.
Iran's state television earlier reported that Iranian scientists had built the Omid (Hope) research satellite under a project that took 10 years to complete. The satellite was unveiled on Monday during an official ceremony and may be launched by March 2009.

Iranian scientist Kharazmi (780-848 BCE)
The 21st International Kharazmi Festival has awarded an Iranian Professor, Mohammad-Reza Islami, the UNESCO's Albert Einstein Medal.
Professor Islami, a well known Information Sciences and Technology (IST) researcher, has carried out several projects for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and is currently a faculty member at the Amirkabir University of Technology.
The 21st International Kharazmi Festival commenced in Tehran on Wednesday. Projects were submitted in the fields of medical sciences, chemical industries, agriculture, energy, computer sciences, basic sciences and metallurgy.
Iran has participated in the annual event with 25 projects while Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, India, Egypt, South Korea, France, Canada, China and Chinese Taipei have submitted a total of 11 projects.
