Hamas attacking Jerusalem

The fighting between Israel and Hamas continues today. Reports say that a ground invasion of Palestinian territory by Israel is very likely.

Rockets have hit Jerusalem and Tel Aviv and Israel continues it's assault on what it calls terrorist targets. Civilian causalities on both sides have been reported in the media and it does not appear that hostilities will end soon.

Former President Jimmy Carter was quoted last week as saying that the possibility of a two-state solution is “ vanishing”. Given what has happened over the last few days, I would say he is probably right.

I'm wondering if maybe a three-state solution might be in the works, since Gaza seems to be on a different page than the West Bank nowadays.

I have been following these two distinct theaters and to be honest I find it very hard to distinguish between the two's use of violent force against civilian and militants alike. Syria's regime is painted with a very negative light by the MSM meanwhile Israel is portrayed as this valiant hero trying to save their lands. In the end both are massacring countless amounts of people in the name of power and land. It disgusts me, and the lies surrounding everything are even worse. I am not here to argue who is right, who is wrong... because frankly no one is right or wrong in these situations, but to cover it up is completely unethical.

    Israel is not always right.

But Israel has been taking daily hits for over two weeks from rockets launched from Gaza. They fire back once, and see how it plays in the media...

This one conflict causes so much trouble for the entire world.

I wish it could just be settled.

    Israel isn't leaving.
    Palestinians aren't going to stop.

Palestine doesn't have the juice to push Israel out.
Israel doesn't want the political blow back from the only way these conflicts end.

No end in sight. I think I could die at the oldest medically plausible age and not see an end to this.

You're in the wrong thread for granting wishes

The change in Egypt has apparently compelled Israel to be cautious. They were a lot more aggressive back when Mubarak was in charge.

    That is an interesting development.

You never know. I once read an interview from the 70's with some guy from the IRA in which he claimed that was an 800 year old conflict. It didn't seem close to ending then, either, but it's over now.

I doubt I'll live to see 800, I eat a lot of heart unhealthy foods. Conflicts end when one side is savagely beaten down or simply out of reasons to fight. I simply don't see Israel delivering that beating and the Palestinians want their land so much they're voting for conflict. I don't see either side going, "Oh well you can have the land if you're going to insist, toodles"

The ground invasion of Palestine already happened. In 1948.

What has been happening the last few days is terrible. Israel is predictably hitting civilian targets such as schools and destroying what remains of an already crumbling civilian infrastructure which had not recovered since the last time they decided on a little ethnic cleansing.

Gaza has been blockaded and under siege since Hamas took over. It's not surprising that they have fought back any way they can.

Unfortunately, I don't see this ending well.
