Day of Reckoning

Today is a day of reckoning for the Obama administration and the President’s signature accomplishment, passage of a national health care law. The Supreme Court can make several different rulings, from simply eliminating the individual mandate to striking down the entire law. If the bill is upheld in its entirety it would indeed be a huge win for the Obama administration, an outcome that seems unlikely. Although some of the law’s requirements are popular with the public, opponents of the law have been successful at swaying public opinion against it.

The ruling, one way or another, will have an impact on the
Presidential race. If the ruling goes against the President, how much can the consequences be minimized due to the fact that Romney supported and helped implement a similar piece of legislation when he was Governor of Massachusetts?

The last time I recall a fair number of people looking for the Supreme Court to resolve a political impasse, it was the McCain-Feingold can of worms. I believe a number of Republicans (and the president in particular) presumed the SC would toss it all out as unconstitutional.

Here I'm sure both major parties are prepared to charge ahead regardless of the outcome. Their biggest problem will be shredding the alternative press releases.

Keeping my fingers crossed! We need national health care and I already felt Obama's plan did not go far enough.

Finally, the long empty phrase "judicial activism" has been shown for the worthless political shibboleth it is and anyone using it can be laughed at.

I don't mean snicker but an outright spittle flinging gaffaw.

and apparently Roberts' stance against judicial activism was key in this ruling.

No two ways about it, this was a huge win for Obama.

I haven't checked Fox news. Did they just shut down the studio and go home? or are they trucking in a huge order of vile, hate, and smear to get em through the next few weeks?

They were focusing on the Medicaid portion of the bill that was struck down. Now they're focusing on the Holder contempt vote.

Now they're blathering about "waking the sleeping giant" and how this decision will energize the right, and how when Romney wins this will be the moment that made it happen. I'm sure if the decision had gone their way, this would still have been the moment that insured a Romney victory.

On another note, they appear incapable of speaking the word "bitches." They say "B -- rhymes with witches." It's that bad. Unspeakable.

Michelle Bachmann, always good for a laugh:

Who you gonna believe? SCOTUS, or a buzzword spouting Michelle Bachmann?
